About the Project & Role
This newly created role is a unique opportunity to join Macquarie University and Microsoft, UTS and TAFE NSW, our partners, in creating the future of Cyber Security Range Training in Australia.
The NSW Government is funding the establishment of a number of Institutes of Applied Technology ( IAT s) across NSW to provide an entirely new form of Australian tertiary institution which will deliver fully integrated theoretical and practical employability skills. One of these is the state of the art IAT-Digital at Meadowbank with Macquarie University, Microsoft, UTS and TAFE NSW collaborating on designing, building and delivering courses.
Macquarie University is leading the implementation of the Cyber Security signature discipline with a distinctive and unique cross-disciplinary curriculum within a live cyber range facility. This cyber range facility will also deliver customisable training which can be tailored to different skills and expertise levels in online, physical face-to-face and blended/hybrid modes.
This important position will take a lead strategic, operational and technical role in developing the framework for and integrating the cyber educational platforms into the physical space of the Cyber Range. It will also set up and establish centre operational functions ready for launch later this year.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Macquarie University Cyber Security Hub you will:
Set up a framework for the Cyber Range Development and education platform and coordinate and collaborate with Tafe NSW IT and key stakeholders to integrate Cyber educational platforms into the physical space of the Cyber Range
Manage the implementation, configuration and operation of the Cyber Range Facility in-line with KPI’s and project deliverables
In conjunction with a team of developers, identify and implement suitable technical solutions to develop the underlying technical platform to provide a simulated training environment and corresponding real-time feedback capabilities. Engage with a network of Industry partners, other signature disciplines in the IAT-Digital and key stakeholders to optimise functions and schedule operations
Manage and develop a small team of Cyber Security and IT professionals to operate and maintain the Cyber Range
Report and manage finances and project milestones, and contribute to the evaluation strategy of the IAT-Digital
Deliver Cyber Micro modules within the Cyber Range Training Centre (e.g., Pentesting, Digital forensics, offensive Security, GRC, Cyber incident Simulations).
About You
You will be an experienced leader, with extensive experience in Cyber Security, who can bring both your own project and technology expertise, and also the proven ability to inspire staff and harness the expertise of others. You will possess exceptional communication skills with the ability to swiftly build rapport, develop effective relationships and build consensus with diverse groups of partners and stakeholders. You will have successfully led and delivered complex technical projects and will be recognised for your integrity, ethics strong commitment to quality outcomes, equality, diversity and social inclusion.

Essential
Postgraduate degree or equivalent qualification and extensive relevant experience including a strong track record of successfully delivering complex technical projects on time
Deep and wide expertise in cyber security, from the technical aspects to human factors, risk management, governance, and law.
Sound understanding of curriculum design in both an academic and industry context (experience in designing short courses will be highly regarded)
Sound technical understanding of cyber security technology and computer network capabilities
Capability to leave or work simultaneously on multiple projects with different levels of priority and complexity and deliver quality outcomes
Ability to apply relevant policies and procedures for day-to-day operations and maintenance of a cyber range facility
This position will require a Criminal History Check
