Software engineer responsibilities include:Developing software components to deliver value to stakeholdersSpecifying and designing software to meet defined requirements by following agreed design standards and principlesWorking with team to deliver outcomes through software developmentQualifications, Skills and Experience:Bachelor of Computer Science (BSc), Engineering, or equivalent qualificationGood knowledge of modern web application development including RESTful web service development, databases, and operating systemsUnderstanding and experience of the software development lifecycle and code repositories such as git, including branching and merging flowsPython, Django, AWS, MySQL, Postgres, Cassandra, Airflow, KafkaData lakes and data warehouse experience preferred but not essentialActivities may include — but are not limited to: Identifying, creating and applying software development and security standards and processesPlanning and designing software applications, components, interfaces and related characteristics (including security)Estimating time and effort required for software developmentConstructing, amending and verifying software componentsApplying test-driven development and ensuring appropriate test coverageUsing peer review techniques — such as pair programmingDocumenting software componentsUnderstanding and obtaining agreement to the value of the software components to be developedSelecting appropriate development methods and life cyclesApplying recovery techniques to ensure the software being developed is not lostImplementing appropriate change control to software development practicesUsing design concepts and patterns to develop software design and provide the basis for software construction and verificationUses appropriate modelling techniques following agreed software design standards, guidelines, patterns and methodology. Creates and communicates multiple design views to balance stakeholders’ concerns and to satisfy functional and non-functional requirements. Identifies, evaluates and recommends alternative design options and trade-offsModels, simulates or prototypes the behaviour of proposed software to enable approval by stakeholders, and effective construction of the software. Verifies software design by constructing and applying appropriate methodsReviews, verifies and improves own designs against specifications.
