Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and knowledgeable Safeguarding Lead (Adults and Children) to join our corporate clinical team for a minimum of 22.5 hours per week.

The main duties of the role are to lead in providing specialist advice, guidance and support to all health professionals and staff within Local Care Direct on all matters regarding the protection of children as defined in National Guidance Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018) and the Intercollegiate Document 2019 and to act as the organisation’s Freedom to Speak Up Guardian.

Job Title: Safeguarding Lead Nurse
Salary: £46,215 pro rata

(Professionally Accountable to): Director of Clinical Services and Quality
Job Purpose
To lead in providing specialist advice, guidance and support to all health professionals and staff within Local Care Direct on all matters regarding the protection of children as defined in National Guidance Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018) and the Intercollegiate Document 2019 and to act as the organisation’s Freedom to Speak Up Guardian.
Key Principles
Work with operational and clinical staff across all departments where staff have contact with children and families, to promote good practice and effective communication. Liaise and develop good working relationships with external organisations and agencies on matters relating to the safeguarding of children & adults ensuring that issues relating to information sharing and confidentiality are addressed
Identification and delivery of key organisational training as per intercollegiate documents e.g. staff induction, PREVENT and Safeguarding Children/ Adults. Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and Deprivation of Liberty (DoLs)
Work with Local Care Direct Trainer to ensure an up to date data base is kept of all staff who have attended regular mandatory updates on safeguarding in line with Intercollegiate Guidance and as identified in staff appraisals.
Ensure that staff are familiar with Local Care Directs Safeguarding Policies and Procedures and that these are followed once potential or actual child/ adult safeguarding concerns are identified
Contribute to internal/ external incident processes; including clinical reviews, safeguarding reviews, and investigations into serious incidents (SI’s). Make recommendations from the findings and develop action plans which will lead to safeguarding improvements in clinical and operational practice for the future
Provision of supervision to staff in relation to Safeguarding issues in line with supervision policy.
Support staff in the preparation of written reports, or at any interagency meetings or court proceedings where they may be called to give evidence in relation to safeguarding issues.
Working with named GP for Safeguarding, develop and review safeguarding standards and develop audit tools and action plans to address gaps/ non -compliance ensure safeguarding procedures are robust and that they are being followed effectively
Act as Freedom to Speak up Guardian for the organisation in line with the principles Outlined by the National Guardian’s Office.
Development of the organisations Freedom to Speak Up systems and processes ensuring that they are fully embedded.
Communications & Relationships
Develop and maintain links with local safeguarding boards for all areas where Local Care Direct is a service provider
Advise and update senior clinical team on Safeguarding Issues
Organisational
To uphold and promote Local Care Direct values and ensure these are translated into working practices and service design
Contribute to the development of Local Care Direct regarding safeguarding issues and policy to ensure it is fit for purpose at all times
Update personal knowledge with national and local safeguarding policies on a regular basis
Act as a positive role model for Safeguarding to all Local Care Direct Staff in equality and diversity good practice
To provide input in the writing of bids for new business to support service developments, advising on safeguarding matters
Patient care
To ensure that safeguarding is a priority for the organisational agenda at all times
Ensure the management and monitoring of safety and standards in relation to safeguarding and manage risk within Local Care Direct
Maintain own personal and professional competence and provide evidence of competence to meet Nursing and Midwifery Council revalidation requirements
Confidentiality
To ensure Clinical and quality services operate within information governance protocols and business confidentiality is maintained at all times
Training
Ensure all staff members who have contact with children, families and adults undertake mandatory training requirements regarding safeguarding children, adults, Mental capacity, Deprivation of Liberty and PREVENT agenda linking with local safeguarding boards to ensure staff have taken up training either online or face to face
Develop and deliver an educational strategy to promote awareness and understanding of safeguarding and Freedom to Speak Up requirements, which addresses the needs of multiple levels and multi-professional groups of Local Care Direct staff.
Be willing to undertake relevant academic study to an appropriate level as required for the post
Identify and acknowledge personal strengths and limitations and identify personal training or development needs and address with line manager
Identify and access a suitable peer for personal supervision requirements and participate in regular supervision sessions

Qualifications
Essential
Registered Nurse Adult.
Study to Post Graduate or Masters level in child protection or willing to undertake.
Desirable
Registered Nurse Children.
Experience
Essential
Experience of working in a clinical role with children and families.
Desirable
Experience of providing safeguarding supervision.
Experience of acting as a Freedom to Speak up Guardians.
Knowledge
Essential
Knowledge, skills and competencies as highlighted in Safeguarding Children and Young people roles and competences for health care staff Intercollegiate Document (2014).
Understanding of other agencies roles and responsibilities in safeguarding children.
Understanding of the principles of the Freedom to Speak up Guardians as outlined in the National Guardians Office.
Awareness of principles of accountability confidentiality and information sharing.
Desirable
Further knowledge of safeguarding, acquired through post graduate diploma or equivalent experience or training plus further specialist knowledge or experience to masters level equivalent.
