About the role
We are looking for a Senior AIOps Engineer to join our new AI Ops platform team in Science IT. The ideal candidate will have proven experience working in AWS cloud environments, where they devised and deployed large-scale production infrastructure and platforms. The position will involve taking these skills and applying them to some of the most exciting machine learning problems in drug discovery.
The successful candidate will be part of a new, close-knit team of deeply technical experts and together have the chance to create tools that will advance the standard of healthcare, improving the lives of millions of patients across the globe. Our data science environments will support major AI initiatives such as clinical trial data analysis, knowledge graphs, imaging & Omics for our therapy areas. You will also have responsibility to help provide the frameworks for data scientists to develop scalable machine learning and predictive models with our growing data science community, in a safe and robust manner.
As a strong software leader and an expert in building sophisticated systems, you will be responsible for inventing how we use technology, machine learning, and data to enable the productivity of AstraZeneca. You will help envision, build, deploy and develop our next generation of data engines and tools at scale. You will be bridging the gap between science and engineering and functioning with deep expertise in both worlds!
You will also have the opportunity to learn many pioneering technologies around Machine Learning Platform. You will push the boundaries, to test, develop and implement new ideas, technology and opportunities.
Key Accountabilities
Provide the vital infrastructure and platform to support the deployment and monitoring of ML solutions in production Optimizing solutions for performance and scalability.
Collaborate closely with data science teams in developing pioneering data science, AI/ML environments and workflows on AWS.
Liaise with R&D data scientists to understand their challenges and work with them to help productionise ML pipelines, models, and algorithms for innovative science.
Take responsibility for all aspects of software engineering, from design to implementation, QA and maintenance.
Lead technology processes from concept development to completion of project work you’re doing.
Liaise with other teams to enhance our technological stack, to enable the adoption of the latest advances in Data Processing and AI
Team recruitment, training provision and coaching
Requirements
Significant experience with AWS cloud environments. Knowledge of Sagemaker, Athena, S3, EC2, RDS, Glue, Lambda, Step functions, EKS and ECS is essential. Certification in appropriate areas will be viewed favourably.
Modern DevOps attitude, using best of breed DevOps toolchains, such as Docker, Git.
Experience with infrastructure as code technology such as Ansible, Terraform and Cloud Formation
Strong software coding skills, with proficiency in Python, however exceptional ability in any language will be recognized
Experience managing an enterprise platform and service, handling new customer demand and feature requests.
Experience with containers and microservice architectures e.g., Kubernetes, Docker and serverless approaches.
Experience with Continuous Integration and the building of continuous delivery pipelines, such as: CodePipeline, CodeBuild and Code Deploy.
Other Desirable Skills
Experience building large scale data processing pipelines. e. g. Hadoop/Spark and SQL.
Use of Data Science modelling tools e.g., R, Python and Data Science notebooks (e.g., Jupyter).
Multi cloud experience (AWS/Azure/GCP)
Experience with open source and cloud native Machine Learning Platforms and Toolkits
Demonstrable knowledge of building MLOPs environments to a production standard
Experience on mentoring, coaching and supporting less experienced colleagues and clients
Experience with SAFe agile principles and practices.
