Your role and your impact

As a Senior Full Stack Developer, you will join Compono’s Learning tribe working on our Learning Management and Content Authoring systems.

You will become part of our work family, where on any given day you could:

Implement new features and solve issues based on customer support requests
Build and maintain product features throughout the entire application stack
Drive efforts to stabilise, upgrade, and improve the application
Uphold quality standards including reliability, efficiency, security, maintainability and usability by applying best practice processes, methodologies and tools

This role is seen as an ambassador for technical excellence, and you will inspire others to follow in your footsteps. We believe strongly in promoting from within, with growth opportunities to either a Principal Engineer role working across multiple teams helping to drive a consistent and evolving development lifecycle, or into a Technical Lead role where you will be responsible for leading teams of Developers, QAs, and Architects.

Our tech stack

At Compono, we aim to have a unified tech stack across all of our products. In this role, you will be initially responsible for maintaining one of our products built on our older tech stack, but we are rebuilding the product from the ground up on our newer tech stack. We are looking for a Developer who currently specialises in Java / Angular that could transition into a TypeScript / React developer in 6-12 months time.

Our current tech stack for our Learning Management System is built on the following:

The front end is an AngularJS application.
The back end is a Java application built using the Play framework, with a Microsoft SQL database.
We currently host the application in Azure on Windows servers, but we are migrating to AWS and Linux.
We deploy from CI/CD pipelines in Buildkite, and monitor using Datadog and Sentry.

Our system is being rebuilt on the following stack:
The front end is a React app built using TypeScript, using Apollo to consume the internal GraphQL API
The back end is Node.js and Apollo gateways, with a DynamoDB NoSQL database
Our unit tests are written in Jest, and our end-to-end tests are written in Playwright.
We host everything in AWS, managed with Serverless, deployed from CI/CD pipelines in Buildkite, and monitored using Datadog and Sentry.

What we’re looking for

We’re not focused on you having a Computer Science degree; instead, we focus on a combination of your skills and your capabilities.

As a Senior Full Stack Developer, you can solve any technical problem in your field given enough time. You will have diverse experience to foresee several solutions to upcoming problems and you know how to make trade-offs and be comfortable with the process. In addition, you will have a solid understanding of software design and systems architecture to be able to devise short-term technical delivery plans.

As a Senior Full Stack Developer in a fast-paced and growing start-up, you will:

Have strong abstract reasoning skills and the ability to think conceptually and problem solve
Possess understanding, passion, and belief of our bigger business vision
Ability to deal with unknowns and help build better processes and practices
Articulate technical problems, concepts, and ideas
