Bachelors (BS/BE) in Computer Science or related field
2+ years of experience in software development and full product life-cycles
Top notch coding skills in Java and/or C++ coupled with strong base in object-oriented design and SOA
Strong proven ability in building high-performance, highly-available and scalable distributed systems
Demonstrated experience in SQL and data modeling skills
Proficiency with at least one of these scripting languages: Perl / Python / Ruby / shell script
Strong sense of ownership and drive
Sharp problem solving skills and ability to resolve ambiguous requirements
Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and designing for performance, scalability, and availability

Software Development Engineer, Self-Service Performance Advertising

The SSPA Analytics and Data Management (ADM) team’s mission is to provide advertising teams a unified experience for data discovery, access and analysis that enables faster insights generation and decision making over the data generated across Amazon. Our work is strategically important to data engineers, business analysts, ML engineers, research scientists, economists and data experts across SSPA. The ADM team own Spektr which is a fully NAWS based, privacy compliant, scalable data lake and ETL pipeline built using native AWS as well as open source technology stacks. The Spektr ETL pipeline is used by customers to manage , fronts the multi-petabyte data lake supporting seamless data ingestions from data sources across Amazon, with 99%+ availability. The individual services are Lambda based, with Airflow-based orchestration managing Spark jobs that run on scalable EMR clusters. All job management aspects of the pipeline are configurable and self-serve to our customers, with UI support. The pipeline currently manages a throughput of several peta-bytes each week and is expected to grow 3-5x of the current volume in 2021.
The ADM team is looking for a top-notch SDE to join its development team in Bangalore to drive the evolution of its ETL services. This work presents a unique opportunity to learn and deliver scalable microservices as well as big data technologies such as Spark. You will own and contribute to technology capable of managing hundreds of peta-bytes of data powering crucial business demands across advertising. A successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in some of the following areas: AWS technologies like Lambda, ElastiCache, Kinesis, DynamoDB, S3 as well as working knowledge of RDBMS or NewSQL solutions, and expertise in design patterns and frameworks.
As an experienced member of the team, in this role, you will:
Contribute to evolving the technical direction of Analytics and Data Management Systems and play a critical role their design and development
You will research, design, code, troubleshoot and support. What you create is also what you own.
Develop the next generation of automation tools for monitoring and measuring success, with associated user interfaces.

Preferred Qualifications
Advanced Degree (MS/ME) in computer science or related discipline or 4+ years of relevant industry experience
Expertise in Map/Reduce systems such as Hadoop / Hive / Flume
Knowledge of HTTP Protocol, REST, XML, J2EE, JavaScript, AJAX a plus
Experience with Amazon Web Services is a plus
