This is a new post which provides an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic pharmacist to join our well established antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) pharmacy team. You will work closely alongside the lead antimicrobial pharmacist, the two other senior antimicrobial pharmacists and rotational pharmacists in the specialty, the AMS medicines management technician, and data analyst. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team alongside consultant microbiologists, the Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) team, infection prevention and control, the specialist AMS nurse and the sepsis team to promote Antimicrobial stewardship within the Trust. We are a progressive team with a track record of developing new and innovative ways of working on a local and national level.

Key responsibilities:
To support the Lead Pharmacist for Antimicrobials and Infection Control in the development and delivery of high quality clinical services provided by the Antimicrobial Pharmacy Team.
Providing expert level advice to Drs and nurses working within OPAT, and to act as an independent prescriber for OPAT
Providing expert level advice on antimicrobials to doctors and nursing staff ensuring that patients receive excellent clinical care in the management of their infection.
Development of antimicrobial guidelines
Development and update of the antimicrobial website and smartphone app
Auditing compliance with antibiotic guidelines and providing feedback.
Active participation in the NUH antimicrobial guidelines committee
Line management of one of the rotational antibiotic pharmacists with responsibility for their training and supporting their development.
Actively involved in the development of and conducting Antimicrobial stewardship ward rounds.
Involvement in the design, review and delivery of teaching given on Antimicrobial stewardship to Drs, nurses and healthcare professionals.
You will be required to partake in general clinical pharmacy duties, work across both City Hospital and QMC campuses of NUH and to take full part in the 7 day shifted rota and bank holidays duties and senior support rota for the on-call pharmacist

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The ideal candidate will be a highly capable, dynamic clinical pharmacist with a broad experience of working in the hospital sector. Experience in the antimicrobial specialty and being an independent prescriber would be preferable, however full support would be given to advance your specialist knowledge for further development of an appropriate candidate.
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Someone who can work well independently whilst also being an active team player.
Experience in project work and service development with the ability to contribute to quality assurance processes, and commit to quality improvement initiatives

Training and Qualifications
Essential criteria
B.Pharm /Bsc (Pharmacy) / MPharm
Current GPhC registration
Post graduate qualification to at least diploma level or equivalent
To be qualified as a pharmacist independent prescriber or be willing to work towards
Desirable criteria
Plays an active role in relevant national network/specialist pharmacist group
Leadership, management or Microbiology related post-graduate qualifications
Member of a relevant specialist group

Experience of delivering clinical pharmacy service and advice relating to the safe use of medicines.
Extensive previous hospital experience (post-registration)
Some experience of line management including effective performance management, recruitment and allocation of tasks/staff

Confident and assertive; able to defend opinions in a constructive manner when challenged
