Grade GResponsible for delivering software / platform engineering activities (depending on specialism), using advanced technical capabilities to fully understand user requirements, acting as the lead for the design, development and maintenance of a software system / infrastructure platform, and assisting in creating the vision to maximize value from current and emerging technologies. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Data Platform Delivery & Management: Delivers, manages, and operates data platform services including but not limited to data ingestion, storage and repository maintenance. Ensures that services and components are designed to meet fundamental data management and governance best practices, security, devops and dataops control framework that are in place.
Emerging Technology Management: Maintains awareness of opportunities provided by new technology to address challenges or to enable new ways of working. Contributes to briefings and presentations about their relevance and potential value to the organisation.
Programming / Software Development: Designs, codes, tests, and documents complex programs and scripts from agreed specifications, and subsequent iterations, using agreed standards and tools, to achieve a well-engineered result.
Release and Deployment: Assesses and analyses release components. Provides input to scheduling. Carries out the builds and tests in coordination with testers. Ensures release processes and procedures are maintained.
Requirements Definition and Management: Facilitates scoping and prioritization for change initiatives of medium size and complexity. Contributes to selection of the most appropriate means of representing business requirements in the context of a specific change initiative, ensuring traceability back to source. Obtains formal agreement by stakeholders and recipients to scope and requirements and establishes a baseline on which delivery of a solution can commence.
FORMAL EDUCATION
Bachelor’s or higher degree, preferably in Computer Science, MIS/IT, or Mathematics
AWS certification such as Solution Architect Associate
EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES
Data Platform Development & Operations : Minimum 12+ years experience in developing and operating AWS infrastructure and/or Big Data platforms e.g. AWS Lake Formation/Redshift/Glue .
Programming / Software Development : Development experience in one or more object-oriented programming languages e.g. Python, Java, etc. Experience in coding, testing, and documentation of complex programs from agreed specifications.
Release and Deployment : Extensive experience in building data pipelines utilizing technologies and frameworks (e.g. Python, Scala, Java, ADO). Experience in carrying out the builds and tests in coordination with testers and component specialists maintaining and administering the tools and methods and ensuring information exchange with configuration management. Experience with Azure DevOps and CI/CD
Systems Design : Extensive experience designing, implementing, and maintaining reliable and scalable data infrastructure and data products in complex environments.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
Experience with Elasticsearch, Kafka, Redis, HDFS and in DB Systems like MySQL or Postgres.
Experience in IOT, streaming, or Digital Twins, and graph technologies
Experience in Azure data technologies such as ADLS and Event Hub
