Job Description : Axcis education are currently looking for a teaching assistant to work at a Severe Learning Difficulties school in Oldham, to provide 1 to 1 support for a young boy with non-verbal Autism and challenging behaviour at times. This is a full time role that is ongoing with no end date set at this present time. The child is 8 years old however the school expect the support will be needed through out his time at the provision. This is a fabulous opportunity to work in a Ofsted rated ‘OUTSANDING’ school as well a build a great relationship with a young boy who needs an empathetic, patient and caring individual to support him.
This is a 2 form mainstream primary school with around 28 children per class. They have a small number of children that are supported on a 1:1 for autism and/or challenging behavior. The school likes to cover absence for this support internally for continuity, meaning you maybe asked to support other children if the child you are working with is absent. The school in situated just off the main road with limited parking but regular buses to Oldham town center
For this role you will have at least 12 months experience of working with autistic children and will ideally will have training in team teach and moving and handling. However, the school runs these courses at the start of every academic year for all staff. The school highly values its staff and any addition skills such as Makaton or British sign language qualifications would also be useful and put to good use.
