Job Description : The British Antarctic Survey are looking for an innovative Web Developer to contribute to the Survey’s Web Development during an exciting time of organisational change. The role will require you to develop and implement internal and external web based systems that support and enable BAS’ scientific, administrative and operational functions. You will be required to disseminate scientific data and information through continual development of our existing platforms as well as to help identify new technologies to improve accessibility and interoperability of scientific data when relevant. This is a dynamic role with development opportunities through a large variety of projects.We expect to run a hybrid working trial in the next couple of months which will include 60% time in the office.Who we areBritish Antarctic Survey (BAS) delivers and enables world-leading interdisciplinary research in the Polar Regions. This will be achieved through continualdevelopment of existing platforms and identification of new technologies whenrelevant.QualificationDegree or higher in a numerate subject area, or equivalent experience.DutiesAs part of the Web & Apps Team, create and support web systems for ourinternal platforms: Linux, Nginx, PostgreSQL and Python stack for newsystems / Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP for legacy systems.Manage the relationship with our partner agency for BAS external websitesSupport the BAS Information Services group to make data and informationFAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable)Contribute to the future direction of and strategy for BAS’ web presenceSupport the overall web presence of BAS in terms of internal and externalweb sites and applications in conjunction with the Information Services, ITand Communications groups.Create documentation describing the technical solutions implemented.Collaborate with other groups within BAS to increase the consistency androbustness of BAS’s web-based systems.Any other duty appropriate for the Band and skills as instructed by the DirectorSkills are listed as either Essential or Desirable.
