Within J.P. Morgan’s Private Bank, the Alternative Investments Group (“AIG”) is a global team of experienced professionals based in New York, Hong Kong, London and Geneva whose goal is to identify and bring to J.P. Morgan’s private bank and wealth management clients a diverse array of attractive alternative investment opportunities. With over $100 billion of client capital invested across hedge funds, private equity and real estate opportunities, the AIG team brings a unique perspective to sourcing and offering alternative investment opportunities to J.P. Morgan’s private banking and wealth management clients. The AIG team uses a “best-of-breed” approach to source opportunities across its broad platform. A disciplined selection process enables the group to offer wealth management clients top quality investment opportunities from both within and outside of the firm through third-party managers.
The Alternative Funds Tax Team is one component of the broader AIG platform, positioned within the Private Bank’s Wealth Management Investment Solutions’ Alternative Funds Management Team.
Description of Position:
This role will provide first-level review and analysis work for the Alternatives Tax Team. The team, currently consisting of 4 individuals based in the U.S., oversees global tax reporting for over 300 private equity fund of funds, hedge fund of funds, hybrid fund of funds and actively managed multi-asset class and real estate funds. The funds are domiciled across multiple jurisdictions with assets totaling over $60Bn in AUM. Global tax reporting currently includes that for U.S., German, U.K., French, Swiss, Danish and Canadian tax as well as FATCA and the Common Reporting Standard (“CRS”).
Responsibilities:
Participate in and provide subject matter expertise, including but not limited to the following:
Reviewing tax work papers and returns prepared by third-party tax advisors
Preparing tax provisions
Discussing tax technical issues with tax advisors
Ensuring timely receipt of information necessary to prepare tax filings
Answering client tax questions
Enhancing operational controls
Supporting new business launches
Frequently interacting and coordinating with the Private Bank’s third-party U.S. and international tax advisors, administrators and fund managers, as well as various teams within the JPMorgan, including Corporate Tax (U.S. and international), Funds Control, Structuring, Marketing, Investor Relations, Middle Office, Legal, Tax Operations and the global sales force.
Qualifications:
Masters in tax and/or CA/CPA preferred
8+ years of partnership tax experience for private equity, hedge and/or real estate funds required
Partnership tax return review experience required
Working knowledge of FATCA and CRS preferred
Knowledge of German and U.K. tax preferred
Tax provision experience preferred
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to manage priorities, excellent time management skills, comfortable multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work proactively and learn independently
Strong problem solving skills, high attention to detail and solid analytical skills, ability to think creatively to address issues
Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively and build relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders/service providers
Strong organization and recordkeeping skills
Strong Excel skills
Familiarity with automation software and capabilities, and preferably experience executing on such initiatives (Alteryx, Xceptor)
