Function Description:
Finance Operational Risk Management is a comprehensive an integrated program. The Operational Excellence team is a key partner to the Finance Functions and provides thought leadership to identify, measure, assess, report, monitor and control operational risk exposures facing American Express. It supports business process owners while ensuring all relevant regulatory and legal requirements are met.
A collaborative partnership between a centralized Operational Risk Governance Group (ORGG), subject matter experts (SMEs), business unit partners, and the Operational Excellence teams enables efficient and effective operational risk controls supported by the Company’s Operational Risk Framework. This framework consists of several core components including risk assessment, business and environmental internal control factors and reporting & monitoring.

Purpose of the Role:
The Senior Analyst, Operational Excellence Issue Management reports to the Manager, Enterprise Functions Operational Excellence – Issue Management, whose main responsibilities is to drive the oversight and governance of the operational risk framework within the Enterprise Functions as it pertains to Operational Risk Events and provide Operational Excellence expertise to Enterprise Functions teams on issue management as it relates to the framework and control rating metrics.
Responsibilites:
Under the guidance of the Manager, Enterprise Functions Operational Excellence – Issue Management, this role:

Provides advice and guidance to ensure effective and efficient issue management is implemented across the Enterprise Functions.Supports Enterprise Functions business partners and OE teams in submitting, verifying and dimensioning financial impacts in line with control rating metrics.Is conversant with the ORGG Operational Risk Event Guidance and control rating metrics.Escalates “at risk” events, high dollar events and ownership disputes to the Manager and Director of Issue Management and the BU OE relationship leader.Includes the OE relationship team on all correspondence and meeting invites.

Past Experience:
3-5 years of experience in Finance/Accounting, Program/Project Management, Auditing or Business/Operations functions within the Banking or financial services industries.

Academic Background:
MBA or equivalent will be an added advantage.

Functional Skills/Capabilities:
Strong analytical capabilities and expertise in defining Operational Risk Events.
Ability to clearly communicate operational risk requirements and work proactively with business partners, OE teams and other Issue Management teams to meet all deadlines associated with operational risk events.
Excellent verbal & written communication and interpersonal skills.
Technical Skills/Capabilities:
Excel & VBA additional advantage

Knowledge of Platforms:
Knowledge of the operational risk framework will be preferred.
