An exciting opportunity has arisen for two 1.0 WTE Clinical Psychologists to support the growing Critical Care & Major Trauma teams at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. The East Midlands Major Trauma Unit is one of the busiest trauma centres in the UK. It has been established since 2012, but is now looking to increase the highly valued existing Clinical Psychology provision within this area. The Critical Care provision is a newly funded service & will therefore provide the opportunity to be involved in setting up a new service in a dynamic & highly supportive environment, where Clinical Psychology is also highly valued.

Main duties of the job

The post holder(s) will have a regular physical presence in the Critical Care areas at both the Queens Medical Centre site & the City Hospital site & also at the East Midlands Major Trauma Unit at Queens Medical Centre, in order to be physically available to support patients, their families & staff members on a face to face basis or at times, via telephone or video consultation.

The service will be delivered in collaboration and consultation with senior Psychology staff, Critical Care staff & Major Trauma Unit staff. Supervision will be provided by an experienced & supportive Consultant Clinical Psychologist working in Major Trauma, who also has expertise within the area of Critical Care.

Both services have a number of innovative research projects running at present, such as the step-down transition from Critical Care to Major Trauma; Psychological screening of Major Trauma patients; Return to work following trauma & the psychological needs of older adult survivors of major trauma. The post holder(s) will also have the opportunity to become involved in these projects, to help shape the future development of Major Trauma & Critical Care Psychology services.

Working for our organisation

The successful applicants will be warmly welcomed to the Department of Clinical Psychology & Neuropsychology within the Trust. Currently there are over 35 Clinical Psychologists, and Assistant and Trainee Clinical Psychologists working across a number of medical inpatient and outpatient services within the Trust.
