Job Description : Required Qualification and Skills
A PhD/Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering
Atleast 10 years of relevant experience in teaching
Roles and Responsibilities:
The Director’s responsibilities apart from teaching assignments and research include, but are not limited to:
1. Teaching and Learning
Setting the academic climate in the school
Leading the School’s efforts toward achieving University goals
Promote a culture of outstanding interdisciplinary education, research and innovation
Leading, and coordinating curricular design and development
Responsible for the Introduction of new courses in the curriculum
Responsible for the Introduction of new programmes
Conduct of BOS (All 3 levels – L1 – CAP / L2 -Faculty / L3 – Expert input / L4 -Final)
Supervising, evaluating and supporting Departments/Schools in a manner that promotes excellence in instruction, scholarly and creative productivity
2. Research and Innovation
Setting up the necessary structures that will ensure that the research in the faculty is relevant and of a high quality. More specifically it includes the management of the following:
Establishing a sound research culture in the faculty
Initiating and promoting ethically accountable research of quality, and increasing research output; managing overall the faculty’s research portfolio, inter alia the pursuit of the current research focus areas
Providing relevant input for the University Academic and Research Regulations
Designing, implementing and monitoring of student Projects / Dissertations / Internships
Submitting research reports/ research proposals to various Govt., non Govt organisations
Mobilizing research funds from various sources
Conducting research related workshops/ FDPs / MDPs/ seminars / conferences/ etc., for internal and external persons
Improving quality and quantity of research publications
Developing contacts for Industry sponsored projects
3. Liaising and Networking:
Responsible for the implementation and monitoring of consultancy activities
Perform the role of an Industry Institution Interface
Form relationships and tie-ups with academic institutions (National / International)
Conduct of Conferences / Symposiums / Conclaves (National / International)
School Research Journal
School Newsletters
Conduct of Continuous Internal Evaluation (CIE) which includes Internal Assessment Tests
(IATs) and Continuous & Comprehensive Evaluations (CCEs)
Conduct of Semester End Examination (SEE)
Design and implementation of Extension Activities
Design and implementation of Community Activities
International tie-ups: with research organizations / universities for research, curriculum development, staff exchange, students exchange etc.,
4. Students
Recruiting and retaining new students in accordance with the admission planning objectives of the University
Providing inputs for School Brochure /Marketing materials /Hand Book /Website
Designingcand implementation of Programme Orientation for students
Welcoming new students and providing orientation with regard to the activities of the faculty
Promoting the value systems of the University by creating and maintaining effective communication with students.
Planning and implementation of Industrial Visits /Exposure Visits
Monitoring Student Mentoring system
Looking into the welfare of the students /supervising mentoring process
5. Staff
Supporting Heads of Departments/ Program Coordinator and holding them accountable for the proper discharge of their departmental responsibilities.
Maintaining accepted performance standards and ensuring the fulfillment of the service conditions and work agreements of all staff within the faculty.
Fostering and maintaining sound personal and professional relationships among the members of staff and between staff.
Identifying areas of improvement and developing the expertise of staff by working with the professional development team.
6. Administrative/Others:
Contribute to the efficient management and administration of the Faculty, the University and the wider academic community by performing such administrative duties.
In addition to all of the above, for the specific role of “ Director – School of Design”, the incumbent needs to :
Contribute to the marketing strategy
Pitch the school to prospective students at coaching centers and organize webinars
Designing of marketing collateral for SoD
Identifying and recruiting both visiting and permanent faculty
Collaborations, MOUs with international design schools and registration with various design related bodies.
Advise on communication material for the university as a whole
Space and infrastructure planning
Identify vendors for the various labs, supplies, consumables.
Other expectations:
In-depth knowledge demonstrated by a doctorate level qualification, usually a PhD in order to teach and support learning on academic modules
