We are looking for an individual with a strong track record as a Full Stack Developer/Lead Developer who wishes to progress their career as Head of Development with a small, ambitious and smart team of IT professionals.

General Summary:

The Head of Development is responsible for the building and configuration of software solutions. Our team exhibits a mastery of our applications and technical expertise for our scalable integrated software products. The Head of Development collaborates with agile teams, testing, estimating and developing to deliver software features. They use critical thinking skills applied to solution design and implementation for the delivery of business value.

We want developers who are opinionated about smart ways to build, yet humble enough to listen and take input well. The Head of Development will get their hands dirty in the code and lead by example.

While temporarily designated as remote, team members may be required to come on-site an average of 12 days a year for work meetings, training sessions, or for any other reasons that the board may deem necessary.
What Experience Is Needed To Be Successful:

Full Stack Developer (LAMP) with at least 5+ Years’ experience
Experience with at least one PHP framework (Laravel / Symfony / Laminas)
Thorough understanding of JS Web Frameworks (React / Angular / Vue)
Experience with latest capabilities of React.js / Node.js (Hooks & the Context API)
Excellent front-end skills, including HTML / CSS / XML / JQuery / JSON / Bootstrap)
Strong experience in editing cross browser, responsive websites
Experience coding landing pages and emails
Expertise with software development tools and processes (Git – BitBucket / Jira)
Experience with deploying and managing infrastructures based on micro service architectures – Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenStack, and Clouds such as OpenShift, Azure, AWS or Google Cloud
Platform Knowledge of UI security issues and best practices to prevent vulnerabilities
Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins / Circle CI)
Strong understanding of the principles of Unit Testing (PHPUnit)
Reusable components Product design – workflow, documentation and delivery
Experience working with RDBMS, SQL, MySQL and NoSQL databases
Experience with Elasticsearch and related search optimisation tools
Experience delivering solutions using RESTful API’s
Analyse and resolve software bugs and performance problems
Experience with ISO/IEC 27001 standards
Ability to translate business requirements into technical requirements
Working knowledge of Data Science/Machine Learning concepts preferred
Good analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to function well in a self-directed, team-oriented environment
Must be up-to-date and always learning about the latest technical standards and best practices in interactive design and development
Strong written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills
Strong organisational and prioritisation skills
Must be able to interact and collaborate at all levels within Dotser, clients and across groups
Ansible or similar automation systems (Nice to have)
Linux System Administration (Must have)

Key Responsibilities:

Design, codes, configures, unit tests, maintains, and documents software deliverables using agreed upon standards and tools.
Leads sizing and estimation activities within the agile team.
Communicates regularly with the agile team on progress made and planned and reports any impediments that are blocking progress
Participates in code reviews and sprint retrospectives; ensuring their ideas for team continuous improvement are communicated
Provide technical leadership and coaching to junior team members
Provide after-hours problem resolution during on-call rotation period
Design effective solutions with well understood tradeoffs that meet the business requirements
Demonstrates an interest in software architectures and seeks to design solutions in alignment with Company stated architecture and standards
Collaborates with Technical Support Engineers to transition software features to a production environment ensuring that the deliveries meet application performance criteria, release standards; and ensures application and system stability.
Ensures that the latest project progress is known to the agile team by ensuring Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) tools are up to date and participating in regular standups outlining progress made, progress planned and detailing impediments

Their preference is for candidates to be based not far from the Dotser office HQ in Tullamore (1 hour from Dublin – Train/Car) – but you can be based anywhere in Ireland or the United Kingdom. Flexible but normal working hours, Monday to Friday 9.00 – 5.30 pm, business needs may require occasional work outside of these hours and on-call technical support shifts.
