JOB OVERVIEW
The post holder will be responsible for building strong working relationships with a range of stakeholders both locally and within the Durham University and Study Group networks. To deputise for the Deputy Centre Director (Student Experience) in the Centre and with other stakeholders. In addition, the post holder will be a key member of the Centre Safeguarding Team acting as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL). Working closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to oversee the management of all aspects of safeguarding and student welfare. This includes ensuring that all safeguarding policies and procedures are followed, staff are recruited in line with safer recruitment processes, monitoring, facilitating, and delivering appropriate training to staff, regularly reviewing and updating risk assessments (including Safeguarding and Prevent), overseeing and contributing to Quarterly Safeguarding Reports (QSRs) and Annual Safeguarding Reports (ASRs). The post holder is also the responsible Manager of the Single Central Register (SCR) and will support with Safeguarding Compliance and the delivery and enhancement of the Centre safeguarding strategy. The Student Support team works collaboratively with all other teams at the ISC, and stakeholders in the University to prepare international students to progress and thrive at Durham University. The team continually monitors the student experience, to ensure that timely support is given to all students, with a view to enhancing each individual’s opportunity for success.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
A member of the Student Experience Leadership Team, working in partnership with the Deputy Centre Director (Student Experience), Head of Registry & Operations and the Head of Progression Support, to plan, enhance and deliver effective strategies across the Student Experience Team and wider Centre. Including reviewing policies, procedures, and the support provided to students.
To oversee the planning and implementation of the student induction program and related induction activities.
To lead and manage the Student Support Team, including student enrichment, welfare, student support helpdesk and Centre coordination.
Responsible for reporting and presenting staff and student data for use by Senior colleagues
Leadership, management, and personal development of the Student Support Team
Implement the appropriate quality assurance and enhancement processes to ensure maintenance of educational oversight with the UK QAA.
Be the strategic owner of the centre’s student engagement strategy.
Ensure the effective and efficient maintenance of all quality and enhancement related policies, procedures, work instructions and documents
Support the Centre Director and Head of Quality and Enhancement in preparation for quality assurance and enhancement related activities.
Analyse data and feedback from a wide variety of sources to monitor progress relevant to Student Support.
Contribute to the production of the Annual Monitoring Report, Centre Action Plan, and other evaluative and reflective documents, for submission to the Study Group (Provider) and the University
To oversee the planning and implementation of the student induction program and related induction activities.
Safeguarding/DDSL role:
To act as DDSL, working closely with the DSL and Centre Safeguarding Team on the management and oversight of all safeguarding related tasks, policies and procedures, safeguarding compliance, and strategies to ensure the safety of all students.
To oversee and contribute to Monthly, Quarterly and Annual Safeguarding Reports and reviews for the network and the Senior Leadership Team.
To be an active member of the Critical Incident Management Team, dealing with critical situations, planning for incidents, and supporting with incidents that arise.
To be a member of the escalation team and be part of the out of hours Rota for emergency calls.
To oversee the student arrivals process to ensure that all students arrive safely to the ISC.
To oversee the welfare and pastoral provision on campus to ensure that high standards of welfare and pastoral support are available.
To provide high-level support service, supporting students with welfare and health issues through physical, emotional, and mental health support.
To have an in-depth understanding and awareness of the procedures and policies associated with wellbeing and safeguarding.
To oversee and monitor student caseloads, providing support and guidance to the welfare team.
To be the responsible Manager of the Centre Single Central Register (SCR)
To ensure that all students are safeguarded according to the Child Protection Policy, Safeguarding Policy and associated welfare policies.
To attend disciplinary hearings as an ISC representative (when required)
To build and enhance relationships with external agencies/organisations, including care providers, the crisis team, College Guardians, the local council and the police and fire brigade.
When required, deal with welfare and safeguarding related issues out of normal office hours.
EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree and/or relevant knowledge, skills and experience
Recent experience of achieving
Level 2 Safeguarding (Essential)
Level 3 Safeguarding (Desirable)
