An exciting opportunity to join the corporate nursing team to manage, lead and develop the PALS service, carer and patient engagement function at the Trust. The post holder will lead on all aspects of the service co-ordination and delivery which includes PALS management, as well as carer and patient engagement across the Trust. The post holder will ensure compliance with national standards for PALS management.

The post holder will work closely with Clinicians, Managers and Pathway Leads to ensure that the Specialties/Departments are using PALS carer, patient engagement feedback to provide optimum quality and experience of care in line with national healthcare standards. The post holder will provide strong clinical leadership within corporate nursing and the patient experience team and be highly visible and accessible to staff, students and other learners. Leading by example he/she will drive up standards patient experience and engagement and have the authority to get the essential components of this right for staff ensuring quality in patient experience and engagement.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will manage, lead and develop the PALS service; carer and patient engagement function ensuring service provision meets all statutory obligations and mandatory local/national objectives.

The post holder will lead on all aspects of the service co-ordination and delivery which includes PALS management, as well as carer and patient engagement across the Trust. The post holder will ensure compliance with national standards for PALS management.

He/she will be an expert resource and will be responsible for ensuring compliance with local and national performance targets for PALS, carers and patient engagement whilst coordinating the Trust’s response to relevant external bodies.

The post holder will work closely with Clinicians, Managers and Pathway Leads to ensure that the Specialties/Departments are using PALS carer, patient engagement feedback to provide optimum quality and experience of care in line with national healthcare standards.

The post holder will also be responsible for the development co-ordination, management and oversight of a carers service and oversee the Trusts Visiting Policy and patient engagement functions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Manage, lead and develop the PALS Team. Provide strategic leadership and developmental opportunities to ensure responsiveness to internal/ external need.

Ensure the services within this remit perform positively against internal and external measures, actively identifying potential risks and proactively problem solving them to maintain compliance.

To offer comprehensive advice, guidance and support to staff from both within the patient experience team and other services across the organisation in relation to the patient experience agenda.

Oversee allocated work processes of responsible staff to ensure quality assurance. Support staff to develop, respond and react to the needs of the organisation.

Regularly review the administrative workforce of the team to ensure it has the right numbers and the right level of knowledge, skill and expertise to deliver services in the most effective and efficient way.

Ensure that all managed staff in the team are regularly appraised and have a Personal Development Plan which supports the Trust’s strategic objectives.

Ensure managed staff in the team work within the requirements of the European Working Time Directive.

Prompt a culture where staff feel empowered and accountable for the service improvement at local level.

Ensure correct utilisation of appropriate trust Human Resources policies and procedures.

Maintain appropriate systems for measuring and evaluating aspects of staff training and development.

Lead service development/ review of policy, process and strategy.

Contribute to the overarching directorate policies, protocol and vision as required. Support directorate improvement by participating in senior management engagement and identifying changes to streamline process.

Essential criteria
Qualified Clinical Practitioner Registered with appropriate regulatory body (NMC. HPC, GMC)
Expert knowledge of Patient Experience and Engagement Agenda’s and good general knowledge of PALS Services
Desirable criteria
Experience of working across organisational and professional boundaries in the development of healthcare services

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.

Transfer of information: If I have previous NHS service – I consent to the transfer of my Electronic Staff Record (ESR) data between this and other NHS Trusts. I also consent to the Occupational Health Department confidentially accessing my occupational health records from my current or previous employer in order to check the status of my vaccinations, immunisations s and screening tests as relevant to the post.
