This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Band 6 midwife, who has a special interest in working with vulnerable women who have experienced Domestic Abuse and or homelessness. You will be working as part of a well-established team, alongside the Specialist Midwife for Domestic Abuse and homelessness (Band 7)
The Specialist Community Midwifery Team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) provides care to vulnerable pregnant women. Complexities of care concerns may include domestic abuse, substance misuse, mental health problems, homelessness and vulnerable pregnant migrants.
You will provide antenatal and postnatal care in a variety of settings with opportunities to provide intrapartum care in line with Better Births, to a caseload of vulnerable women.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and compassionate midwife who wishes to extend their midwifery skills in this field. You must have excellent communication and time management skills and be a proactive team player who is able to work flexibly. It’s vital that you have a passion for caring for women with complex needs and vulnerabilities and understand how this impacts on maternity outcomes.
You will be required to be a car driver and have access to a car for work purposes as you will be based in a community setting.

Working within a vision of ‘’Delivering excellence in everything we do ‘’.The post holder will required to have a high level of relevant knowledge and skills, which you will use to manage, develop and care for pregnant women with complex vulnerabilities in partnership with the wider multidisciplinary team.
The post holder will work flexibly within the Specialist Midwifery Team to provide caseholding care for the most vulnerable and complex clients effected by, exposed to or at risk from, Domestic abuse and Homelessness.
To contribute to the development and delivery of high quality midwifery services in line with professional and government policy in order to tackle the negative impact on pregnancy associated with both domestic abuse and homelessness .You will provide a seamless service that is responsive to client need. This will involve delivering care from both acute sites and the community. You will ensure that relevant pathways, policies and processes for women with these additional vulnerabilities are followed whilst keeping up-to-date with local and national guidelines related to this specialist role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will also be responsible for a caseload of vulnerable women effected by Domestic Abuse and/or homelessness, including the planning and implementing of individualised midwifery led care in partnership with the woman and the multidisciplinary team. Using continual assessment and analysis you will provide continuity of care throughout the woman’s pregnancy, birth(where appropriate) and the postnatal period to ensure her medical, psychological and social needs are assessed and holistically cared for.
You will be working alongside multi professional teams providing the most appropriate care for women whilst breaking down barriers that can inhibit women with socially complex lives accessing high quality maternity care. Working in a variety of settings including community, hospital and women’s homes including confidential addresses.
Have increased knowledge of and interest in domestic abuse including the impact on pregnancy outcomes. Have awareness around other complexities and vulnerabilities that may accompany exposure to domestic abuse. Work in partnership with other members of the Specialist team to ensure a joint plan of care and management of risks
Promote both short-term and long-term health through evidence-based education. Support women and their families to make sustainable changes to improve health outcomes and decrease the generational impact.

Band 6 Registered Midwife
Evidence of recent relevant CPD in area of expertise
Teaching and Assessing Qualification / Possession of a SSSA or equivalent mentorship training

Evidence of further study or attendance at training in domestic abuse or complex social needs

Essential criteria
Knowledge and experience in vulnerable ,complex pregnant women developed through training and practice
Extensive clinical midwifery knowledge and understanding of clinical pathways of antenatal, Intrapartum and postnatal care
Up-to-date research based professional knowledge about the impact of domestic abuse on pregnancy and the role the health service can play in mitigating this
Understand the impact of complex social needs on infants and other family members, and the role that maternity services can play in mitigating this.
Experience dealing with child protection issues with the ability to demonstrate knowledge and effective use of safeguarding procedures
