Job Description : Nursery ManagerREPORTS TO Proprietor/Committee/BoardPosition Responsibility· To establish a high quality and financially sustainable nursery, overseeing all aspects of the day-to-day business and administrative practices in both provisions.· Be accountable and responsible for day-to-day financial systems directly relating to the nursery provision and the administrative duties associated with the management of the facility, e.g. maintaining records on the children and their families, keeping accurate and up to date personnel records, ordering equipment, maintaining an inventory in both provisionsKey Areas· Responsible for the timely and accurate collection, recording and banking of fees.· Management of a petty cash budget, including customer credit and debtors.· Build and develop clear and measurable plans, budgets, and targets in accordance with agreed procedures to ensure financial objectives are met.·Prepare timely and accurate reports to the Proprietor/Management/Committee/Senior team as required with information relating to finance, quality of the provision and anything else deemed necessary.· Selection and safe recruitment of staffDescription of DutiesReporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the key objective of this role is to develop the nursery into a profitable business and demonstrate strong and positive leadership in the following:· To ensure a child centred environment with high standards of physical, emotional, social, and intellectual education and care for all children in the nursery.· To ensure the smooth running of the day-to-day business and people management of the nursery· To supervise, support and lead the professional development of nursery staff in regard to the standards of quality and practices required by EYFS and Ofsted and to strive to become a flagship of good practice for the sector· To oversee the efficient upkeep of the building and grounds, including maintenance, stock control of equipment, furnishings and fittings whilst maintaining a register of assets· To establish and maintain effective communications links with the appropriate agencies.· To achieve the targets set for occupancy levels by managing capacity, reviewing numbers of children attending and following up enquiries promptly to always ensure maximum capacity levels.· To market and advertise the nursery to ensure the nursery maximises its capacity.· To attend meetings within and outside the setting as and when required, acting as an ambassador for the nursery.· To ensure a sustainable nursery business through both knowledge and understanding of the sector and the effective management of finances and staffing ratios in relation to the occupancy levels.· To be responsible for the administrative and marketing requirements of the nursery.· To lead a team of professionals including nursery staff, cooks, cleaners, students, and voluntary workers whilst ensuring good practice at all times.· To supervise and support all members of the nursery team in their day-to-day duties including recruitment and induction, appraisals and reviews, training and development, individual supervisions, and discipline.· To embed a culture of continuous improvement in relation to service, quality and efficiency, and to foster strong team working.· To plan and organise staffing schedules and holiday rotas to ensure staffing levels are in accordance with Ofsted and Local Authority requirements· To oversee, monitor and support staff to understand and implement the Early Years Foundation Stage· To follow all relevant legislation that relate to staff employment and record keeping.· To ensure all staff have an up-to-date enhanced Disclosure and Barring disclosures (England and Wales)· To co-ordinate and chair staff meetings as appropriate including maintenance of agendas and minutes of meetings· To ensure all practices in the nursery are in accordance with current legislation, good practice and nursery policies and procedures.· To lead on the planning and monitoring of the nursery and implement essential policies and procedures in line with statutory requirements and best practice for childcare.· To respect the confidentiality of sensitive family information (subject to child protection policies and procedures) and ensure the staff adhere to this.· To develop and maintain procedures for regular review and assessment of each child’s progress in partnership with parents/carers.· To implement and manage an effective parent liaison programme with staff, ensuring regular communication and interaction with parents/carers.· To receive and deal with complaints positively and proactively in accordance with procedures.· To build good working relationships at every level internally and externally. Working in partnership with parents/carers and families is highly valued and the Nursery Manager must be approachable, friendly, and able to always communicate effectively.· The post holder will also need to develop close working relations with key service areas within the company (i.e., IT, Finance, Purchasing HR, etc.)· The duties and responsibilities in this job description are not restrictive and the post holder may be required to undertake any other duties which may be required from time to time.Please note, the post holder is required to have clearance to work with children from the DBS.Liaison and Communication with External Bodies· To liaise with Ofsted, Social Services, Local Authorities, and other professional bodies associated with the nursery.· Co-ordinate with appropriate agencies regarding trainee placements and supervising accordingly.· Monitor grant applications with Local Education Authorities, completing the documentation required.Human Resources· Selection and recruitment of balanced staff team, using safe recruitment policies and procedures.· Supporting of personnel within the setting.· Conducting personal development reviews (PDR’s) and where necessary implementing disciplinary procedures.· Ensuring all aspects of staff management duties are allocated effectively and monitored and evaluated.· To analytically reflect on your own practice.· Give constructive feedback when required.· Evaluate and deliver staff training and role model good practices.· Committed to promoting equal opportunities, diversity and inclusion.· Annalistically reflect on the practice of the staff team.· Ensure clear communication is delivered regarding managerial decisions to all members of staff· Ensure clear and accurate staff records are maintained.EYFS and Childcare Curriculum· To ensure the provision of high standards of physical and emotional care, providing a child-centred environment where children are cared for in a safe, caring and stimulating way that ensures their individual needs are met within a group setting.· Support all team members in understanding and following, the legal requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage· Instigate the development and implementation of systems to monitor and record child development.· Ensure the provision of a high-quality environment meets the needs of individual children regardless of any disabilities, family backgrounds or medical history.· Provide all team members with the support and resources required for the early identification and intervention for children with possible special needs.· At all times promote the high standards of the nursery to parents/carers, staff and visitors.· Evaluate the quality of childcare and education within the setting as required by Ofsted identifying and addressing areas needing development to ensure that all children attending the setting are kept safe and receive rich and stimulating play experiences appropriate to their age and stage of development.Equal Opportunities· The post holder must carry out his/her duties with full regard to the Company’s and setting’s Equal Opportunities policyHealth and Safety· The post holder must carry out his/her duties with full regard to the Company’s and setting’s Health and Safety procedures and required documentation.· To be responsible for the overall health and safety standards within the nursery for Children, Parents/carers and Visitors, ensuring compliance and awareness, including training for staff where appropriate.
