Standing still is not an option in the current world of Insurance. TMHCC are one of the world’s leading Speciality Insurers. With deep expertise in our chosen lines of business, our unparalleled track record and a solid balance sheet, TMHCC evaluates and manages risk like no one else in the industry. We have doubled our gross written premiums in the past 3 year and our plan is to do so again in the next 3 years. To support this desire, we need to be forward-thinking and innovative in every respect. That means continually improving our customer-focused business, it means providing systems, solutions and technology to enable seamless growth and business innovation, and it means having the best people capability to apply to these challenges.
Part of our evolution involves growing our team, and bringing in a range of views, perspectives and backgrounds that will allow us to deliver this forward-looking culture, that relies upon open and trusting relationships, and a shared vision for that continual improvement. We aspire to build an environment where new perspectives are encouraged, where resilience, fresh ideas and different opinions are valued.
About the Opportunity
TMHCC is in the midst of an IT transformation and is shifting towards a Product-centric operating model. You will be managed by the Pega Engineering Practice Lead, and will work within one or more ‘Product Teams’. As a Pega Engineer with experience of Agile and DevOps and working within a Product Team, you will research, design, test and support Pega solutions that deliver value to the business.
You will design, develop and support enterprise-level Pega solutions for TMHCC. This may involve developing BPM solutions on the enterprise Pega platform, integrating web services, designing data models and frameworks, and supporting existing Pega implementations.
Core Responsibilities
Work with product delivery managers, other engineers, analysts and architects throughout the Pega development lifecycle to build, implement, maintain and support Pega-based solutions for business process management
Analyse and interpret user requirements (e.g. user journeys), and provide feedback on constraints and improvements to user experience
Understand the enterprise needs and wants for BPM, and design Pega solutions that help to improve process management
Configure and develop defect-free and performant Pega solutions that meet user requirements
Integrate solutions built by other teams where appropriate (e.g. link Pega workflows with BI or compliance solutions)
Ensure the quality of your Pega solutions through peer review and formal testing
Resolve Pega defects and incidents, and perform root-cause analysis for software problems
Work with DevOps Engineers and others to improve Pega engineering tooling and the efficiency and automation of testing and deployment
Participate in and contribute to Agile meetings throughout each development cycle
Create and maintain technical specifications and documentation for reference and reporting
Conduct ‘show-and-tells’ with your product team and end-users to demonstrate Pega solutions and feature changes and capture feedback
Provide Pega support in line with agreed service management processes
Day-to-day Interactions and Activities:
With your Product Team colleagues:
A) Product Delivery Manager:
Your work will be under the direction set by the Product Delivery Manager
Always be ready to present your ideas, challenges, and constraints to them, but be flexible enough to give your wholehearted commitment to the eventual direction or prioritisation set.
Treat them as one of the customers of your work.
Provide reporting of your progress between sprint cadences, and provide estimation of proposed changes on effort required, using a suitable technique (e.g., story points, # sprints)
Assist with change submissions to governance bodies (e.g. Technical Design Authority) as needed
Help set up and present at show-and-tell sessions with your customers
B) Business Analysts:
Provide them with questions and feedback on requirements documentation (e.g. user stories and BPM workflows) to ensure that you have a complete and accurate understanding of Pega requirements
Help in refining user stories and acceptance criteria, and present Pega platform opportunities and constraints as appropriate to reduce time-to-build and cost, improve usability and user experience, and increase business value
C) Architects:
Understand the architecture strategy and direction (blueprint) which will guide what and how you develop Pega solutions
Test your design assumptions regularly with them
Identify where you might need to deviate from agreed blueprints, and help them to understand the benefits and risks / technical debts of such decisions
Assist with the preparation and/or review of architecture artefacts as appropriate (e.g. a logical architecture diagram)
D) Other Pega Engineers on your team:
Regularly mentor and review work of less experienced team members
Have them peer-review and quality assure and improve your work
Assist with the management of third-party Pega engineer resources within your team as needed
E) QA/Test Engineers:
Agree suitable ‘critical path’ test cases for Pega development testing to assist with assuring the change when deployed to test environments
Verify whether acceptance criteria are met in development, and jointly resolve to either amend the build or notify the team lead of unmet criteria and reasons
Review test outcomes, and be present as required during test sessions
Regularly participate with them in the testing, fault-finding, defect fixing, and re-test sequence
F) DevOps Engineers:
Work to ensure that Pega development environments are maintained to the same standards and versioning that exists in the test and production environments
Notify of any differences you find in Pega development vs test environments on changes pushed
Review and update support obligations between ITSM platform teams, DevOps engineers and yourself for changes that require support provisioning.
With the Pega Engineering Practice Leader:
Assist the Pega Practice lead in establishing the Pega engineering practice
Ensure that your personal performance objectives and actions are agreed, and then reviewed on a regular basis
Brief them on Pega practice issues, and seek their guidance when needed
With Pega Engineering and wider Software Engineering Practice colleagues:
Actively participate in Pega practice discussions on the Pega platform and roadmap, practice ‘good standards’ for design & configuration of Pega solutions, peer reviews, re-use and sharing of Pega solutions, versioning, common components, support, and testing of Pega changes
Assist with production of documentation on agreed standards and methods as needed
Help colleagues to effectively use engineering tools to efficiently design, deploy, test and support Pega solutions
Ways of Working and behaviours:
In designing, building, and supporting Pega solutions you are driven by user needs and wants and improving overall customer experience
Able to quickly learn new technologies, platforms and languages
Proactive and resourceful, you have an aptitude to solve problems and not just identify them
You efficiently build quality solutions that meet requirements with a minimum of bugs/defects
Able to effectively prioritise your work to ensure your team delivers the most value in a given ‘sprint’
Requirements:
Essential:
Relevant qualifications and experience – such as a BSc in Computer Science or Engineering, Software Development certifications, etc.
Minimum 3 years demonstrable experience in designing and building workflow and business process solutions, preferably in financial services or regulated companies
Ability to interpret requirements and specifications documentation (e.g. user stories)
Excellent technical analysis skills
Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, methods and tools
Knowledge and experience of Agile product delivery methodologies within a DevOps environment (e.g., Scrum, Lean, Kanban, XP)
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to listen, present and communicate solutions clearly and concisely with technical and non-technical audiences
Strong appreciation of the importance of comprehensive testing

Familiarity with following technologies/concepts: BIX, RESTful APIs, TomCat, Pega Cloud (AWS) and Cloud Choice (K8S)
PCSA/PCSSA Pega certifications
Knowledge of Pega PRPC 5.x/6.x/7.x
