Where you fit in
The Seismic Analytics team in Bangalore is part of the Inversion and Imaging R&D group that sits within the global Geophysics East organization. What awaits you is a team involved in discovery, development, demonstration, and deployment of new and innovative solutions to seismic imaging aided by machine learning solutions where feasible. The current research focus is in the areas of full waveform inversions for velocity model building and reservoir properties, passive seismic interferometry, micro-seismic imaging, and accelerated imaging. All this research is to help Shell’s Upstream business in finding and developing hydrocarbons in geologically complex basins in a cost-effective manner.
What’s the role?
As Research Geophysicist, your main contribution is to support Shell’s in-house Seismic technology overall development.
Your further responsibilities include the following:
Proposing and implementing novel technology solutions and testing newly developed technology on seismic data in experimental processing projects.
Building a closer integration with the end users as well as the global technology organization or the present business environment.
Supporting Shell’s hydrocarbon exploration and production worldwide by showing us you have the skillset and aptitude to be able to develop, test and deploy efficient algorithms.
Working closely with the R&D teams in Amsterdam and Houston and will be guided by senior and principal experts in Netherlands and Bangalore.
What we need from you
We are keen to hear from professionals with a proven track record in Seismic Imaging research. We are also looking forward to having someone with in-depth scientific skills to be combined with a sound understanding of the business to ensure delivery of value-driven seismic imaging technology.
Furthermore, we are expecting you to have the following:
MS/Ph.D. in Geophysics, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or other relevant fields.
5-8 years of significant experience in Seismic data processing, model building, imaging either in industry or academia.
Has worked in an R&D environment that focuses on Seismic Imaging and Full Waveform Inversion (FWI).
Solid understanding of the fundamentals of inverse theory.
Familiarity with Machine Learning workflows is a plus.
Established ability to integrate within and across disciplines, to innovate and drive quality and subsurface excellence.
Good communication and collaboration skills and be able to interface with staff of diverse backgrounds. Virtual working skills are essential.
Passionate about coaching and proactively assisting teams in meeting business goals and objectives.
Project and time management skills – able manage own time and to manage projects under cost and timeline constraints.
Ability to work and flourish in an ambiguous environment, one in which there will often be no definitive right or wrong answers, only choices. Be able to seek out expert advice when necessary and implement new technologies or workflows.
