The Speech and Language Therapist post will work to complement the work of the existing NHS service within the county, and so will have a role distinct to that which already exists. You will offer an enhanced level of support and intervention for cases requiring it, particularly around building the skills and knowledge of colleagues within the hubs, and within schools, settings and colleges in the Scarborough, Whitby, Ryedale Locality. When required, you will work to enhance the LA offer to children and families within the statutory EHCP process, providing reports and detailed input to support complex assessments, and to make recommendations about future provision.
An additional focus will be the providing therapeutic advice and support to targeted provisions being established within North Yorkshire, based in mainstream schools these will support children who can access a mainstream setting with an enhanced level of support. These new posts will work alongside NHS colleagues to enhance the SLT support available to staff and children in those provisions. You will be supported in this work by SLT assistants. You will also have the opportunity to work within the PLP based in Scarborough for post 16 learners.
