Job Description : Our R&D centre of excellence in Edinburgh, has a new opportunity for a Software Engineer to join its Imaging Framework team. As a company, we strive to create technology that makes a meaningful difference to people’s lives, helping doctors to help restore their patients’ health and well-being.The Imaging Framework team delivers into internal customers across the global Canon Medical organisation, providing reusable components to enable application developers to create clinical imaging applications. The team is responsible for two main areas, an established C++ based framework that is widely used across development sites in the UK, Japan, China, and USA, and a newly created modern web-based framework that is at the early stages of development. You will ideally be able to work across both areas, but we expect most of your development effort to be focused on the newly prototyped web-based framework. Within this role, you will have the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the product development lifecycle, from requirements capture through to product release and support.We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic software engineer, who enjoys working as part of a team, and has the drive and ability to learn and develop new skills. Ideally, we are looking for a candidate with an excellent academic record within a Computing/Scientific based discipline and with a proven track record working in a software engineer role who is keen to further develop their career. Candidates without an academic record should instead be able to demonstrate that they have a strong understanding and practical experience of working within a software development role.For practical skills, we are looking for candidates who have experience of working with both C++ and web development technologies, and who is ideally strong in at least one of these areas. Significant OOP experience of Java or C# would also be considered; however, we expect candidates to have some level of C++ experience as our existing code base is highly complex. General familiarity with modern web application development is also desired, with experience of one or more JavaScript Application frameworks, such as React or Angular. Our frameworks are developed for both Windows and Linux deployment environments, so experience of both platforms would be beneficial. Prior knowledge of all these areas, and of medical imaging, would be advantageous, but significant experience of the full tech stack is not required, assuming there is a desire to learn and work using these technologies.We aim to offer an inclusive, flexible, and balanced working environment, by being an employer that cares for and respects its employees.
