Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist – Stroke Rehabilitation

Base: Woodfield Stroke Rehabilitation Unit, Bodmin Community Hospital

There is potential that this role will develop to work in an integrated way across the stroke pathway (other Inpt Rehab units or ESD).

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic, client centred Speech and Language Therapist with a special interest in stroke and stroke rehabilitation. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in stroke and/or neuro-rehabilitation in an inpatient setting.

The Woodfield Stroke Rehabilitation Unit is a dedicated, 9 bedded facility co-located within a larger ward at Bodmin Community Hospital. WSRU has been open for over 10 years now and has an excellent reputation for clinical care. We are a therapy and nursing led team with have an inter-disciplinary model of practice. Speech and Language Therapy is an integral and essential part of the service we provide.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to develop and consolidate their clinical skills in this specialist field and to develop their role within the stroke unit team. This is a very clinically focused role, with a high proportion of patient contact time. This post is also supported by an experienced B3 SLT assistant, who you would supervise and develop.

Although this is a stand alone post professional and clinical support is available through the wider Cornish SLT service, which includes experienced practitioners working across the stroke pathway.
Currently, WSRU provides a therapy service six days per week and this role requires the flexibility to be able to cover this (should be no more frequent than 1 in 4). There is the potential, but no specific plan for team to move to working 7/7 in the future.
