Exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Research Assistant with an interest in Neuroscience and Drug Development research to work in the Dementia Research Centre.
THE ROLE
Salary Package: From $75,400 p.a.to $85,728 p.a. (HEW Level 5), plus 17% employer’s superannuation and annual leave loading
Appointment Type: Full time, fixed term for 12 months.

The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic Research Assistant to work on various funded projects to develop novel therapies for Alzheimer’s Disease. The successful applicant will have a proven record of accomplishment in conducting a variety of laboratory techniques and demonstrate an excellent standard of laboratory research, data analysis, record keeping and communication skills. The Research Assistant will work directly with Senior Academics at the Dementia Research Centre and will liaise with a range of academics, research, and administrative staff.
The successful applicant will provide experimental and resources support on research activities involving mouse models of dementia, including behavioural and biochemical analysis of mice, with the aim of developing and testing novel agents that can potentially halt and reverse the course of Alzheimer’s disease. This should appeal to a highly motivated individual who is keen to contribute exceptional efforts to a research team in neuroscience and drug development.
About You
Drawing on your experience gained in a tertiary environment, you will work with minimum supervision, show initiative, and anticipate requirements, ensuring deadlines and objectives are met. Previous experience in the behavioural and biochemical of mice, including immunocytochemistry and animal handling, is essential. You will be a research assistant experienced in the use of animals for research purposes and bring to the role knowledge of behavioural analysis, protein biochemistry, and microscopy. Use your strong written and verbal communication and organisational skills to liaise with various stakeholders and assist in the preparation of research data for presentation and publication.

Essential Selection Criteria :
B achelor’s degree or higher in medical science, neuroscience, biochemistry or related discipline.
Experience in the handling and analysis of research animals for scientific purposes, including behavioural and biochemical analysis.
Knowledge of principles of molecular biology and protein biochemistry.
Experience in PCR, DNA and protein extraction, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry and similar molecular biology methods.
Experience in microscopy techniques, especially confocal and fluorescence microscopy desirable.
Working effectively as part of a team to undertake and complete research projects.
Working in a research laboratory with an understanding of laboratory health and safety practices and principles.
Excellent organisational skills with a demonstrated capacity to meet tight deadlines and manage time effectively.
This position requires you to comply with occupational screening, assessment and vaccinations in line with Macquarie University requirements.
