For Unilever toremain competitive in the future, the business needs to continue its path to become data intelligent. The Information and Analytics team is responsible for building data, data science and analytics as a core capability to help the business become data intelligent and drive business and organization performance. The team will deliver advanced products at scale and work closely with the market teams to ensure that decisions in Unilever are augmented with insight & recommendations wherever possible.
There are five major themes to the Information and Analytics strategy:
Deliver Intelligent systems at scale. Powering Business (cross functional), Customer Development area & Supply Chain through data and analytics. We are looking to hire a Data Scientist, Unilever for the in-market team in South Asia.
This is an exciting role in the Data & Analytics team partnering the 2nd largest Unilever business HUL. Unlocking growth, consumer and customer value while driving efficiencies and building future ready capabilities using business analytics, ML & AI is core to what we do everyday!
Your Team: The Data & Analytics In-Market team helps our Unilever businesses win competitively in market using data, data science, and analytics. We leverage Our close engagement/ relationship with brands, marketing, supply chain and customer development leadership with a (highly technical) data science team to solve for both large transformation programs and near-term business problems. The team is composed of business interpreters, data scientists, and data experts who can: quickly understand the business context + problem, apply advanced mathematics and/or statistics to large data sets; and operate in cloud based environments where data, models, and user interfaces reside in the same platforms-core technologies
Job description of the role:
Works with business teams to fully understand the business problem and how to deliver relevant insights that lead to actions. Gathers, analyses, and models data to solve complex business problems. Builds Diagnostic and Predictive Models to solve the business problem applying range of techniques across classical statistics, Machine Learning (incl. deep learning).
Power fast paced analytics experimentation (50% of time) through hands on data science solution building and creative approaches to solve ‘one of a kind’ problems.
Once proven industrialize the analytics solution (50 % of time) in partnership with the central data science hub with emphasis on (i) tuning the model for high accuracy (ii) coding it for optimal speed and scale
Support the Head of Data & Analytics in evangelizing the use of Data Science in business decisions. Help accelerate the organization journey to become fully data literate and digitally savvy.
Key Accountabilities:
Build data-science and algorithmic solutions to address business problems requiring descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and / or prescriptive analytics
Perform exploratory and targeted data analysis using descriptive statistics and other methods
Drive new value from insights from connecting external and internal data sources
The position is an individual contributor role working closely with the Data engineers, Business Analyst, Supply Chain CoE and HUL Data & Analytics team. This position is expected to be ‘hands on’ applying own data science skillsets. This role will also manage third party resources as required.
Relevant Experience:
B.S. or M.S. in a relevant technical field (Operations Research, Computer Science, Statistics, Business Analytics, Econometrics, or Mathematics). Analytical Development experience of 3+ years preferred.
Strong track record in solving analytical problems using quantitative and statistical approaches
Expert knowledge in solving Regression, Classification, and Time Series Problems.
Should be thorough with the concepts of the different types of linear regression models, tree-based models (decision trees, random forest, gradient boosting, XGBoost etc) and forecasting (both univariate and multivariate). Knowledge of kernel-based models (SVM) will also be a plus.
Conceptually sound, if not hands on, in concepts on dimensionality reduction (PCA, SVD, EM) and unsupervised learning.
Expert knowledge working with and coding in Python, R, and SQL. Additional bonus if the person has previously worked with Power BI.
Experience in applied deep learning (and it’s frameworks like pytorch, tensorflow, caffe) is a plus.
Ability to manipulate and analyze complex, high-volume, high-dimensionality data from varying sources; Ability to work with and process unstructured data (text, speech, and images) will be a plus.
Experienced knowledge working with large data sets, experience working with distributed computing tools a plus (Spark, Hadoop, Hive)
Experience of working with columnar databases is a plus
Passion for empirical research and for answering hard questions with data
Passion for reading research papers and implementing the same in real world problems
Any public profile rank on any data science hackathon portal (Kaggle, Analytics Vidhya etc.) would be a bonus.
Ability to communicate complex quantitative insights in a precise, and actionable manner
Strong communication skills and ability to work with peers and demonstrate vertical and lateral influence.
