Job Description : We are looking for a new Assistant Sports Editor to join the team and help the other senior staff and ensure the highest quality content is produced at all times.
We are looking for someone who has a keen eye for fun, quirky and irreverent stories that typify what the Daily Star brand is all about.
We also know that sports media across the UK needs to be more representative of the fans who read our journalism. We particularly want to hear from people who feel their voice isn’t being heard in sports journalism, and who want to play a leading role in helping to shape a more inclusive future for sports journalism.
This is not a location-dependent role and can be based anywhere in the UK.

Key Responsibilities
What will the role involve?
Focus on building new audience opportunities on Sport Commission and edit exceptional news stories, features, comment and analysis pieces
Ensure sports digital content strategy is delivered locally within the team
Day to day management of writers to ensure best possible coverage
Build relationships with fans across digital platforms
Content edit locally sourced material as part of content editing team
Managing social media and audience relationships as and when required
Working across Reach’s wider sports vertical as and when required
Writing, regularly, and maintaining a public-facing profile across sites

The Ideal Candidate
Who are we looking for?
First-class content editing experience
Strong team player who can work for benefit of whole network
Strong people management skills – essential to get this job
Digital publishing skills
Social media skills
Passion for digital storytelling in journalism
Proven leader
NCTJ or equivalent qualification
Deep knowledge of media law
Successful background in developing people and managing people
Digital publishing experience
