Job Description : In collaboration with the Administrative Director of APPs and CMO, under the ultimate oversight of the Medical Executive Committee, develop the practice of APPs to include enhanced roles, encompassing the design, implementation, and oversight of an Acute Care APP Service.
Develop, implement, assess, and revise as needed all clinical policies and procedures within the realm of APP practice. Ensure clinical compliance of APPs to Department policies and procedures. Ensure APP knowledge of and adherence to Medical Staff Policies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Promote efficient, high quality care according to guiding principles as follows:
Quality care will be provided 24/7 to all inpatients.
Care will be provided in collaboration with and in support of the physicians attending inpatients.
Clinically competent APPs will be assigned to match patient and service needs.
Assist new hires with credentialing and onboarding processes. Collaborate with APP Team Leads to:
develop and maintain clinical onboarding processes of newly credentialed APPs.
review and standardize processes of care across shifts and services.
develop comprehensive staffing models based on the needs of each service.
implement quality and communication standards (handoffs, clinical outcomes, etc.).
monitor and review individual performance of APPs.
develop and monitor performance plans for individual APPs.
Collaborate with the Administrative Director of APPs to:
Assist with recruitment, retention, and staffing of SJMH employed and non-employed APPs with involvement in the interview process of APP hires as requested.
Implement and oversee SJMHS Quality and Safety goals, objectives, and initiatives.
Coordinate APP student rotations to facilitate recruitment of future APPs with SJMHS.
Develop tracking tools and data collection for APPs (schedule, hours, productivity, etc.).
Participate in monthly departmental meetings with physician liaisons.
Develop and maintain a Policy and Procedure Manual for the Department of APPs.
Develop and maintain an APP Council. Coordinate activities and meetings of the Council.
Complete performance reviews and evaluation of APP Team Leads.
Provide assistance to PA residency program directors in administration of individual residency programs; review programs to ensure compliance with APPAP guidelines.
Facilitate clear communication and employee engagement within teams.
Assist in the accommodation of APP preceptors and shadows.
collaborate with the Department of APPs and PA programs to schedule and coordinate PA student clinical rotations.
Serve as the Lead for the critical and progressive care Cardiothoracic Surgery APP team in its role of training APPs assigned to the Acute Care APP Service.
Maintain a minimum of 0.3 FTE in clinical practice on the Cardiothoracic Surgery service.
Serve as the surrogate for the Administrative Director in his/her absence.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals and other literature and attending related conferences and seminars.
Participate in outcomes studies and research activities.
Participate in professional development activities with maintenance of professional affiliations and certifications according to SJMHS policies and state codes.
Assume responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, patients, and families.
Report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices including near misses and actual errors either to management or using the SJMHS anonymous reporting system.
Maintain good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approach conflict in a constructive manner.
Help identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution. Maintain the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patients, physicians, employees and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.
Discuss patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.
Follow all HIPAA policies and procedures.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
Current State of Michigan license as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Attain/maintain privileges as a credentialed APP at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish relationships with physicians, APP teams, and administrators based on mutual respect and collaboration Minimum 10 years of APP clinical experience Minimum 5 years of APP leadership experience Strong computer skills with willingness to learn additional software as needed
