Job Purpose
We are looking to bring in a Database engineer in the Enterprise Data Services team under Enterprise Operations and Technology, to help the implementation of next generation Data Platform using cutting edge Data Management Technologies. The Candidate is required to possess relevant design and development experience in developing complex database solutions, application programming and should be a strong team player. Exposure to Finance OR Risk Functions on the Retail Banking products or Wholesale/Investment banking is preferred. This is a significant opportunity for an experienced engineer with experience in modern data platforms to move into a role working with a variety of development teams, including close collaboration with an on-site Data Governance team.
To be successful in this role, you will need to have proven experience in development of solutions/platforms for financial markets environment. It is expected that you will have superior technical knowledge of current programming languages, technologies, and other leading edge development tools.
This role will assist in planning, engineering, and optimizing the Genesis organization’s Application and Data warehouse databases. Successful candidate will oversee the various databases under Genesis platform and help support initiatives such as database development, management and automation, application development, and data consumption. Ideal candidate will be accountable and responsible for implementing and/or assisting ETL/ELT processes to existing data warehouse data and in migrating the data into strategic cloud data warehouse platforms. This role will provide industry wide best practices in database designing, data migration strategies, automating optimized data flows and performance improvement methodologies.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but not limited to
Provide database solutions based on technical documents and business requirements.
Develop database functions, scripts, stored procedures, and triggers to support application development.
Provide technical assistance to resolve all database issues related to performance, capacity, and access including database migration from one technology to another
Ensure data integrity and quality in database systems.
Maintain standard policies for database development activities.
Identify and rectify database errors in a timely manner.
Create physical and logical database models as per the business requirements.
Manage and monitor performance, capacity, and security of database systems.
Prepare documentations regarding database design, configuration and change management tasks.
Mentor database administrators to manage the company databases effectively.
Requirements/Qualifications
6+ years of experience in Netezza database design for high volume batch and stream transactions for ingestion and consumption.
Experience working with IBM Cloud Pak for Data Services (ICPD) NPS is a plus.
6+ years of experience in managing and administering the VLDBs in SQL and/or NOSQL databases.
6+ years of experience in performance tuning at various levels of data points – database level, table design level, and most importantly at query level.
Developmental and administration experience in Cloud Snowflake data platform is HUGELY advantageous and preferred.
Deep knowledge of data store technologies, such as, relational and NoSQL core knowledge, high availability, replication/sharing and DR solution, database observability (metrics, dashboards, and alerts).
Strong background in Python, Perl, Linux and Unix Shell scripts
Experience in big data platform including Hadoop is preferred
Experience in Open Shift Administration, docker, container technologies are preferred
Working experience on Tableau and other BI tools
Must Have Skills
10+ years of hands-on experience on database architecture & administration
Proficient in writing SQL/PLSQL and performance tuning of databases including good understanding of databases architecture and internals
Excellent skills in database design & data modeling, should be able to create data models independently.
Highest acumen in data analysis and understanding complex data structures.
Wide knowledge on SQL optimization, database administration, data migration and data transformation.
Good exposure to various Database technologies such as Oracle, Netezza, Teradata, MongoDB etc.
Comfortable working with large data volumes and be able to demonstrate a firm understanding of logical data structures and analysis techniques
Should have exposure to Big Data technologies
Proficient with Linux/Unix platform
Experienced with DevOps, automated build and test processes
Able to demonstrate an expertise in identifying and resolving data quality issues – in data sets at rest and in flight
Familiar with the financial services industry and/or regulatory environments
Demonstrated leadership skills
Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication
Ability to work as part of team and independently
Interpersonal skills to interact with team members and clients
Prior experience working with remote teams
Candidate should have good communication skills and be able to interact with global partners/teams as per project demand
Educational Qualification
Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience
Master’s degree preferred
