Job Description : Maersk is looking for a Head of Competition Law & Policy – Asia Pacific to join our team of app. 10 best-in-class competition law counsels with diverse professional and international backgrounds. The role reports to the global Head of Competition Law & Policy at our headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark.

In this role, you will get a unique opportunity to support and facilitate the accomplishing of Maersk’s strategic priorities and transformation to become the global integrator of container logistics, with a focus on our Asia Pacific business.

More specifically, you will develop and execute Maersk’s competition law & policy efforts in the region (including our competition law compliance programme), and you will identify opportunities and risks in this respect, thereby increasing our regional impact in this strategic and critical field.

You will be the face of Maersk’s Competition Law & Policy presence in the Asia Pacific region, and you will be able to make a positive impact to internal and external stakeholders from day one.

Maersk’s Asia Pacific head office is in Singapore, but we will also consider relevant candidates based in other locations throughout the Asia Pacific region (where Maersk has a significant business presence).

Key responsibilities
As the Head of Competition Law & Policy – Asia Pacific, your key responsibilities will be:

To build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders (from our Ocean, Logistics & Services, APM Terminals, and Fleet & Strategic Brands businesses) across the Asia Pacific region, such as the Commercial and Operations teams, as well as with Legal, Communication, Compliance, Public Policy & Regulatory Affairs, Finance/M&A, Tax etc.
– Ongoing familiarization with the competition law environment to understand the laws, risks, and latest developments in the region – and to reflect this in the competition law compliance awareness-level of your stakeholders.

To provide competition law compliance trainings at frequent intervals (face to face and virtually); further develop the trainings/compliance programme on a conceptual basis.Building and maintaining relationships with a network of trusted external competition counsels across the region.To build and further enhance relationships with competition authorities.Managing competition law complaints and investigations from a strategic perspective; and manage and coordinate the relevant external counsels/other advisors in line with this strategy.Assisting with merger filings, RFIs and other relevant engagements with competition regulators.To maintain close involvement with business stakeholders regarding ongoing and future business projects that may implicate competition laws.To provide general competition law assistance and advice across the region on a day to day-basis.Assisting with risk assessments affecting the Asia-Pacific region including follow-ups and mitigation measures.To manage the effective local and regional awareness of existing and new Maersk competition law guidelines as well as developing specific dos and don’ts and standard operating procedures tailored according to the needs of the region.
Conducting spot-checks, as relevant, with the support of HQ/the wider Competition Law & Policy team.

We are looking for
You deliver world-class competition law advice with both holistic and strategic value to our business.

You excel in building relationships, and you are confident when engaging with stakeholders, including senior management. More specifically, the role will be appropriate for you if you have:

A relevant master’s degree.6 to 10 years of professional experience as a trusted adviser from (ideally) a combination of in-house-positions and consultancy roles (e.g., law firm or management consulting) or from a competition regulator / authority.A solid business understanding (from strategy to execution).The ability to find simple solutions to complex issues.International and cross-cultural experience.The ability to establish and maintain long-term relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.Project management skills.
Key measures / success criteria:
Trusted advisor role established with internal key stakeholders.Contributes to high team engagement and Maersk’s “People” strategic objective.Structured approach to engagement with competition regulators and other external key stakeholders.
