Job Description SummaryThis position, Lead Engineer – Gas Turbine Controls Design, is primarily responsible for developing advanced Controls solutions for the fleet of heavy duty gas turbines (HDGT) including HA frames – through new product introduction (NPI) process and delivering the Customer fulfillment excellence through order to remittance (OTR) process, considering both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the customer needs. This role requires close interaction with internal & external customers, strong inclusive team player working across a global technology team and willingness to work in an Agile methodology of collaborative engineering.
Job Description
In this position, the individual will be exposed to all aspects of the Gas Turbine (GT) Control system engineering – requirement gathering, conceptualizing, developing, validating, implementing & commissioning of the Control solutions for HDGT Fleet. The successful individual in this position would have great understanding of the GT Control system as well as the fundamentals of GT Operations and how those fundamentals interact with the control system to deliver optimum value to the customer. The position will also offer ample opportunities to directly interface with customers and commercial entities.
Typical day of GT Controls Design Engineer would involve, while embracing Agile methodology and collaborative engineering, working closely with the Controlled Title Holders, experienced Engineers & program/project architects and progressing through the design, requisition, validation and commissioning phases of GT Controls system solutions engineering.
The successful candidate for this position will utilize her/his problem-solving, technical & interpersonal skills & project management experience to
Identify, develop, evaluate, and manage engineering solutions for control system technology needs. Apply control theory and mathematical modelling to design and control systems with desired behaviours. Includes operability, setting of boundaries, cycle optimization, control logic, control related software, sensors, hardware and software algorithms, and feedback to control the performance of devices, subsystems and systems
Participate and lead the program design engineering of high quality Control solutions – both for New Unit (GPS) and Services (PS) funding streams, by owning and developing partial/full scope of advanced controls technologies on HDGT fleet (F/HA/B&E) producing tangible customer outcomes, with detailed understanding of key business drivers
Provide leadership for programs/projects, assuring the design quality & timeliness, while enhancing technical domain expertise, demonstrating strong sense of ownership, accountability & urgency in meeting critical business KPIs, responsible for Technical & schedule risk identification & mitigation plans
Proactively engage and collaborate with product line, systems and cross functional design teams (such as combustion, accessories, performance, operability etc) to develop clarity on scope & requirements, risk management while setting expectations for timely inputs and with detailed understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to final solution
Participate and lead the design reviews with chief’s office, following the NPI tollgate review process & review expectations along with required artefacts, including module level testing and failure mode driven validation methodologies.
Use some level judgement and has the ability to process different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance, while using prior experience and on-the-job training to resolve technical roadblocks
Lead and conduct Controls Software Acceptance Tests (SWAT) with Customer, demonstrating and validating Controls Functionality
Provide Start Up, Commissioning, Issue Resolutions support for Power Plant Controls Systems on Controls HW and SW Applications, with occasional travel to customer sites as needed
Demonstrate strong Leadership behaviors and customer centric culture in everyday execution
Provide constructive and candid inputs driving continuous improvement, deliverable quality & process simplification and productivity improvements, with unrelenting focus on product & people safety
Qualifications/RequirementsBachelors’ degree in Engineering (Electrical / Electronics / Controls & Instrumentation)5+ years working experience in Engineering in which at least 3 years in Gas Turbine Controls EngineeringStrong working knowledge of Heavy Duty Gas Turbine Controls and Operational philosophy of various GT Frames with hands on experience on GT or ST Controls (Mark* Series) would be distinct advantageHands on experience in Installation/Commissioning/Maintenance of GT Controls Systems, HMI and NetworksProven Experience in developing Controls Logic using Ladder Logic / Statement List / Block Logic diagramsProven track record executing projects for GT Controls upgrade to completion timely & with qualityStrong communication, presentation & project management skillsWillingness to be challenged and executing using new technologies & skills
