Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
The primary objective of this position is to maintain and customize the cloud environments used to deliver VMware Learning customer-facing labs. Your experience in administering and troubleshooting large-scale VMware environments, accompanied by your background in system administration and Linux systems will allow you to excel within this role.
Within 60 days, you will be working with VMware vCloud Director, NSX, vSAN, and automation tools to engage in technical development to meet the needs of VMware learners and support front line engineers.
Within 90 days in this role, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining advanced cloud infrastructure. You will also contribute your expertise to the ongoing evolution the cloud architecture supporting VMware Learning customers globally!
What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?
Work closely with internal and external cloud providers to plan and execute upgrades, customize clouds to support delivery of instructor led and on-demand labs, and troubleshoot outages as needed
Build tools and processes to assist in day-to-day operations, deployment, and support tasks
Lead and mentor customer facing support engineers
Implement changes as required by the business to support the above

The hiring manager for this role is Drew LaBonne, Senior Manager, VMware Learning. Drew joined VMware in 2013 as technical support engineer in Premiere Services and became involved with internal training and course development. Drew is a life-long learner and encourages his team members to embrace new ideas, innovation, and change.
Drew’s management style is open and engaging. Drew encourages the team to be forward thinking, bring ideas to the table and run with them.
The team currently consists of support and lab deployment engineers. The learning team is expanding to include cloud engineers and developers that will help to manage, troubleshoot, and modernize our cloud platforms to provide the best possible experience for our customers!
Where is this role located?
The location for this role is flexible. Preference will be given to candidates in Bangalore, India area. However, remote applicants will be considered.
Required Skills
Background with Computer Science fundamentals (based on a BS or MS in CS or related field or equivalent experience)
Experience in managing or supporting large VMware vSphere environments
Experience in managing or troubleshooting clouds using VMware vCloud Director or similar
Experience in managing or troubleshooting VMware NSX-T, NSX-V or vSAN
Familiarity with managing and troubleshooting Linux systems
Preferred Skills
Experience with DevOps best practices
Familiarity with scripting (BASH, Python, PowerShell, PowerCLI)
Experience with platforms like Kubernetes, Containers, and public clouds (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Cloud certification is a plus
