FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Pay Rate: $40,000-45,000 annually, commensurate with experience; excellent benefits package
Community Health Action of Staten Island (CHASI) drives dramatic improvements in the health of New Yorkers by feeding people who are hungry, healing families broken apart by violence, and bridging the gaps between people and the compassionate health care they deserve. CHASI serves the most vulnerable individuals, families, and communities with critical services and programs. CHASI provides outreach, education, prevention, and direct support services for populations most affected by health disparities – the poor and working poor, low income people with chronic illnesses, persons with criminal justice involvement, substance users, domestic violence survivors, people of color, and the LGBTQ community.
POSITION SUMMARY:
CHASI’s Prevention Department focuses on seeking out and coordinating outreach, education and referrals for priority populations to address a broad range of needs to improve overall health and wellbeing and decrease acquisition of HIV and STIs through comprehensive effective strategies. The Media and Outreach Associate will coordinate, deliver and evaluate both events-based and social-media/app-based outreach efforts to engage individuals from priority populations.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Identify venues for events-based and social-media/app-based outreach efforts that will be most effective in engaging the priority population
Coordinate and conduct events-based and app-based outreach to engage and navigate persons into needed services, including HIV/STI counseling, education, testing and prevention and care.
Work with the Vice President of Communications and Development to develop social media and printed materials to promote the program and engage potential clients
Conduct strengths-based, client centered screening to identify the needs of each client in full collaboration with the client
Supervise Peer Outreach Worker(s)
Educate and counsel persons on combination prevention strategies (e.g. correct and consistent condom use, the benefits of HIV testing and screens for other sexually transmitted infections, PreP, and medical interventions intended to assist efforts at staying HIV-negative)
Build relationships and work collaboratively with internal and external partner providers
Collect and submit to CHASI’s Data Unit accurate data on persons contacted and engaged via both virtual and in-person outreach.
Participate in training, professional development activities, and meetings, as assigned
Perform all functions in alignment with CHASI’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values
Other duties as assigned
. Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:
At least 1 year of experience providing prevention services and/or education
At least 1 year of experience performing community outreach; familiarity with Staten Island preferred
Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly preferred
Must have basic knowledge regarding HIV, HCV, STI, PEP/PrEP and Harm Reduction methods
Deep and actionable understanding of social media best practices, trends, strategies, and opportunities
Familiarity with social media apps and internet-based venues that the target audience frequents (i.e. Grindr, TikTok, etc.)
Cultural competency and interest in health care equity, social justice, social media, and public health
Ability to work independently and also be team player with an ability to work with diverse teams with shared responsibility and accountability; ability to contribute to a positive, productive, open, and supportive environment that motivates others to perform at their best.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including capability to listen and follow instructions; able to give, provide direction and follow up on tasks; high attention to detail and accuracy. Be highly organized and able to multitask.
