Job Description : BDS are currently recruiting for an Principal Accountant to work for a local authority, mainly based from home but with occasional travel to the Dorking, Surrey Office.The Role – To support the delivery of the financial and corporate accounting functions of the Financial Services Team.To lead on technical accounting, taxation and day-to day treasury management activities.To lead on technical accounting e.g. capital, pension fund, collection fund, including setting the council tax and liaising with preceptors etc. Maintain good working relationships with the external auditors.About You -Significant experience of working in a local government finance environment.Experience of assisting with the production of the statement of accounts. Including, completing disclosure notes and at least one of the core financial statements e.g. balance sheet, CIES etc.Significant experience of technical accounting, particularly for capital and collection fund. Knowledge of financing the capital programme, setting the council tax and of prudential indicators.Professional accountancy qualification, preferably with CIPFA, or with either a CCAB member (ICAEW, ACCA, CIPFA, ICAS and Chartered Accountants Ireland) or CIMA.This is a full time role, working 37 hours per week, Mon – Fri 9am – 5pm. Mainly based from home but with some occasional travel to the Dorking office.
