Job Description : ABOUT THE JOB

EnglishScore is an EdTech venture which is scaling rapidly as it becomes the global test and certificate of English for employability. We are backed by the British Council, the globally-renowned authority in English language teaching and testing; and by Blenheim Chalcot, the UK’s leading digital venture builder.

Our mobile English test (Android and Apple) is available in 170 countries. 1,000 employers and education institutions have signed up for a dashboard account, and this number will grow to hundreds of thousands. We have 2 million new users each year, and this number will continue to grow.

CHALLENGE – GROWTH AND MOMENTUM IN ASIA

In 2019 we piloted the first version of the app, test and certificate in India. In 2020 we created a new version of the app and opened this up to other countries; also adding the dashboard for employers and education institutions. In 2021, we successfully launched our partnership programme in Asia with an accelerated rate of adoption.

The Global Development team is now actively present in 6 markets in Asia, with the potential to grow in each market, and to expand to new countries in the region. We have a great team in each of our markets that is pushing hard for growth. With our disruptive offering and the pace that we are operating, we are in need of a Regional Director that will be responsible for the growth of the region and lead our operations to increase our growth through their experience in the market, great organisational skill, and commercial acumen.

THE ROLE

We want someone based in South East or East Asia that is excited about the opportunity and understands what it takes to make this happen. You will own the revenue and growth targets in Asia, working with each Country Manager in their market, helping them to develop their strategy and execution of the plan, closely monitoring the processes and reporting development and results using best practices.

This role directly reports to the Director, Global Development, and will work closely with the central Business Development team, Marketing team, Product team, and other HQ functions.

ABOUT YOU

You understand and are excited about this opportunity. The positive impact of our work is immense on the lives of many students and young professionals across Asia.
You have more than 3 years of experience in managing the business development or sales operations for multiple markets in Asia (and over 10 years of professional experiences). You understand what it takes to manage different markets successfully.
You are a proven leader, and are a great communicator. Your previous reports love working with you because you push them for excellence and help them grow in their roles.
You are strategic in your thinking, and can think at a high level. At the same time you are ready to roll your sleeves – no job is too big for you.
You are very comfortable, confident and competent in developing commercial relationships at a senior level; whether at a large scale employer or at the government level. You can point to a number of experiences that have resulted in success and revenue growth.
You are super-organised, productive and professional – and others remark on how you leave this impression on them.
You are a team player – confident and flexible, with the ability to interact with a wide range of people and work closely with different functions working at different time zones.

NICE TO HAVE

MBA or a Master’s Degree
You have relevant direct and indirect connections that you can draw on.
You have some experience in a relevant sector, especially in the EdTech sector.

Fixed-term contract, or permanent role.

Location: South East or East Asia

DIVERSITY

We will be delighted if we can continue to build a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives and skills. This benefits us, our employees, our partners and our customers. We are an equal opportunity employer, and we subscribe to British Council’s Equality global policy statement.
