Job Description : The University of Manchester invites applications for the post of Research Associate to join the Mental Health Research Theme within the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration for Greater Manchester (NIHR ARC-GM). This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the development, evaluation, and implementation of two exciting new developments which focus on involving young people in Mental Health research and Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE). These two complementary projects include the development of a research methods course for young people and the development, evaluation and implementation of a PPIE app that will enable young people (in the first instance) to respond rapidly to mental health research ideas and provide feedback on ongoing mental health research projects. For the PPIE app project, the Research Associate will work alongside a team of digital health researchers.
The NIHR ARC-GM is a collaboration between The University of Manchester and the health and care system of Greater Manchester. Our work is directly informed by the needs of both this system and the local population. Our over-arching goal is to improve the health of the GM population and the quality and sustainability of the health and social care they receive. We will achieve this by co-producing excellent research in areas prioritised by the system and by enhancing its impact through supported implementation into policy and practice.
You will work with Dr Pauline Whelan, Co-Director of GM.Digital and Digital Health Technical Lead, Penny Bee, Professor in Applied Health Research, Karina Lovell, Professor of Mental Health, and Sandra Bucci, Professor of Clinical Psychology as well as other members of the Mental Health Research Theme. You will be based in the Division of Informatics, Imaging and Data Sciences within the School of Health Sciences. This is a full-time post, and you will be office-based at the University of Manchester with the opportunity to hybrid work.
You will hold a PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject area and be expected to coordinate and deliver projects within the Mental Health Research Theme including systematic reviews, mixed-methods studies, and Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) activities to time, target and budget. Experience of working with participatory approaches with children and young people is essential. You will be expected to ensure effective regulatory, financial, and human resources procedures are in place to deliver the work. This will involve extensive liaison with the project team and collaborators.
