Your Role:
The Tenable Research group is a high-talent and high-energy team that is pushing new technologies that are achieving the best detection in the marketplace. Tenable is looking for a Research Engineer to join our Security Response team. Security Response Engineers champion the efforts within Tenable to augment coverage for high profile security events and create external facing material like blogs, whitepapers, podcasts, webinars, etc. for these events. Team members work closely with Researchers, the Public Relations Team, the Marketing team, and Program Managers to coordinate the release of Security Responses and Security Advisories in response to high profile cybersecurity events.
Your Opportunity:
Monitors the threat landscape, researches the impact of existing vulnerabilities, and tracks high profile events in real-time
Coordinates with various Research team leads and champions the Security Response process end-to-end. Responsible for driving completion of all Security Response process activities, including, but not limited to: notifying PR, ensuring the right teams have coverage, ensuring the blog/community/PR are armed with the information they need, and completing the postmortem
Creates and refines technical content for identified events (blogs, whitepapers, webinars, podcasts, etc.)
Automates discovery of high profile events from various channels
Responds to media and customer-driven events as they occur
What You’ll Need:
Analyze newly published vulnerabilities and security advisories in order to help guide the team in responding to the latest threats & vulnerabilities
Solid understanding of common security vulnerabilities, CVSS scoring, vulnerability detection, exploitation and classification techniques
Ability to manage the progress of security incidents through the Security Response process and coordinate & track the activities of the various functions simultaneously within Tenable Research to ensure that all deliverables are completed in a timely manner.
The applicant must be able to make quick decisions, sometimes based on minimal information, and be able to communicate those decisions in a clear and concise manner to other members of the worldwide Tenable Research team and to upper management when required
In order to respond quickly to security incidents, the position sometimes requires the candidate to be available at short notice
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
Strong attention to detail and able to shift priorities as needed
Willingness to explore and learn
Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision as well as collaborate and work with others as part of the larger research team
B.S. degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience
And Ideally:
Broad knowledge of infrastructure including networking services, common protocols, services, technology landscape, etc.
Background in security and communications
Experience with search engines such as Shodan and Censys.
Demonstrable experience writing blogs, technical papers as well as presenting to various types of audience
Ability to influence others and speak to a variety of audiences
Scripting and/or programming experience (Python, Bash, Ruby, NASL, comparable)
