Job Description : Introduction:
The Economist is looking for a Mobile Engineer to join our flagship mobile app engineering team.
We are investing in our mobile app experience as an essential window into our outstanding content, text and audio. We’re growing our engineering team to help our users find and read more of our content, to keep coming back and to increase customer loyalty.
You’ll work in an agile environment, releasing quickly and often to the app stores to ensure quick feedback loops around the success or not of our features and experiments.

Location
This role is available in our central Birmingham office, just a 5 min walk from New Street Station and 1 min walk from Snow Hill Station.
We offer flexible working and have systems in place to ensure working remotely when the need arises. During the current Covid-19 situation, we shifted to all working remotely and the intention is to continue to spend more time working remotely than in the office.
Accountabilities:

How you will contribute:
Report to the Engineering Manager of the mobile team
Work with our designers and product owners in our product organisation to create a seamless user experience
Work on the team that is essential to growing and retaining our subscriber base
Work on a React Native application while going native on iOS/Android when required
Bring features from specification to production
Work with teammates to produce high-quality solutions

The ideal skills for the role are:

Commercial experience in mobile development, you have worked in either Android, iOS or React Native
A love of mobile user interface best practices and an understanding of the impact it has on customers interactions with products
Experience writing automated test
You’ll value well-thought-out and straightforward solutions to problems.
Mentorship experience, you’ll have been seen as a go-to person in your last role
Good technical project management skills, taking a set of requirements, breaking the work down, and communicating requirements is second nature
