Job Description Summary: Software engineers at PayPal develop innovative solutions and high-quality products that touch millions of people every day around the globe. Our engineers solve some of the most complex technical problems in the world of payments across all business units, including PayPal, Braintree, Venmo and Paydiant. We’re looking for the highest levels of technical talent and programming skills, as well as a keen desire to deeply understand our products and services to push our technology forward with respect to functionality, performance, reliability and scalability.
Job Description:
You’ll work alongside the best and the brightest engineering talent in the industry. The Developer Ecosystem team has opportunities in a wide range of areas including development, design, search, platform, test, quality, big data, front end and back-end. As a core participant of your team, you’ll estimate engineering efforts, prioritize projects, plan implementations and triage production issues. You need to be dynamic, collaborative and curious as we build new experiences, improve existing products and develop distributed systems powering the world’s largest e-commerce and payments websites at a scale few companies can match.
Responsibilities:
Design robust and scalable distributed applications.
Code, test and debug programs according to computer engineering specifications.
Build new and modify existing applications.
Develop software prototypes.
Write unit tests and functional tests (automation).
Perform manual tests.
Use tools to access data in datastore, version control systems, etc.
Practice Agile methodologies.
Provide production support and fix bugs
Partner closely with cross-functional partners in design and product.
Drive discussion and provide feedback on code and architecture.
Mentor less senior engineers on the team in a manner that helps them grow.
Requirements:
6+ years programming skills in Java, NodeJS, Spring, React, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Docker.
Expertise in designing medium scale distributed systems.
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related field.
Exposure to additional technologies such as GatsbyJS, PHP, Python, Microsoft .NET (C#), iOS, Android.
Knowledge with cross-browser, cross-platform, and design constraints on the Web.
Experience writing unit/functional tests using Mocha, Nemo.js, JUnit, Selenium, etc.
Experience designing and building systems with Docker containers.
Experience debugging web applications using Developer Tools on the browser. – Familiarity working with SQL and noSQL datastores.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong influencer and strong communicator, both written and spoken.
