Position Summary:
Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) with an emphasis on software security , combine engineering experience and a desire to improve existing systems and processes with a security mindset. This position will be responsible for the availability and reliability of critical platform services and applications, ensuring they meet the requirements of internal and external partners. The best SREs are motivated to collaborate with business leaders in building and running resilient production systems, which can evolve and adapt to changes in a global business environment. Manages assigned projects independently and may serve as technical authority for issues associated with specific projects. May assist Principal, Sr. Principal and Architects with product design.
Primary Responsibilities:
Deploy and maintain services that detect and help prevent software vulnerabilities in F5 Code.
Build software and systems to maintain platform infrastructure and applications.
Improve reliability, quality, and time-to-market of our suite of software solutions.
Measure and optimize system performance, pushing our capabilities forward, getting ahead of internal customer needs, and innovating to continually improve.
Provide primary operational support and engineering for multiple large distributed software applications.
Collaboratively determines and develops approaches to solutions for assigned projects by identifying, resolving, and mitigating risk and communicating with partners.
Provides technical solutions to detail certain aspects of service design and ensures that resulting design specification fits into technical architectural framework.
Performs analysis to define design requirements for modification to existing tools, utilities, system structures, environments and provide technical feedback on project scope and estimating activities
Recommends and maintains technical design methodologies, processes and standards
Assist Principal Engineers and Leadership with project scope.
Conducts presentations internally and externally.
Other Responsibilities:
Responsible for upholding F5’s Business Code of Ethics and for promptly reporting violations of the Code or other company policies.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree
Strong Systems engineering experience using automation tooling like Terraform, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet
Supporting PaaS Services (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Experience with Infrastructure as code.
Windows IIS Server administration using automation like PowerShell required
Experience managing databases like MS SQL and Postgres
Experience with Linux /Unix administration desired
Strong analytic / trouble-shooting skills.
Able to collaborate and thrive in a fast-paced high-performance environment.
Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communications.
Demonstrated leadership role within project team.
Extensive knowledge of product life cycle.
Demonstrated security mentality with an eye for preventing software vulnerabilities
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous success in technical engineering.
Automation experience beyond simple scripts.
Passionate about the Service Level Objective (SLO) process.
Familiarity with HashiCorp tools (Vault, Terraform)
Experience with distributed storage technologies like NFS, HDFS, Ceph, S3 as well as dynamic resource management frameworks (Mesos, Kubernetes, Yarn)
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Duties are performed in a normal office environment while sitting at a desk or computer table. Duties require the ability to use a computer, communicate over the telephone, and read printed material.
Duties may require being on call periodically and working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends).
