POSITION OVERVIEW

Rehabilitation, Aged and Community Services (RACS) is a vibrant and diverse Division within Canberra Health Services providing multidisciplinary rehab, aged and community-based care across a range of settings. This includes Canberra Hospital, Community Health Centres, Village Creek Centre in Kambah, and Independent Living Centre in Weston. A number of RACS services work collaboratively with the individuals, his/her carers and other services within and external to Canberra Health Services.

The Community Care Program (CCP) Community Nursing Service delivers a range of community-based technical nursing services to residents of the ACT. These services include wound care, continence management, stoma care, post-acute support, palliative care, and end of life care. Services are delivered in a clinic or domiciliary setting.
DUTIES

Assistants In Nursing in the North Complex Care House work under direct and indirect guidance, supervision and support of Registered Nurses as a member of the nursing care team:
1. Provide safe, effective assistance to the person with high level disability in a community setting, to support their specific needs in performing activities of daily living.
2. Communicate with members of the nursing care team verbally and in writing and provide specific feedback to Registered Nurses on the status of the person and the personal care given.
3. Contribute to and promote the physical, psychological, social, cultural and spiritual care of the person.
4. Contribute to an environment that is respectful for the personal dignity and integrity of the person.
5. Undertaking other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the section.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:
Mandatory:
Certificate III in Health Services Assistance or recognised equivalent (for example working towards Diploma in Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing) is essential.
Desirable:
Recent experience in the care of ventilated patients is highly desirable

Note: These positions are part-time at 16 hours per week and the full-time salary noted above will be pro-rata.

Prior to commencement successful candidates will be required to:
Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
• Obtain a Compliance Certificate from OMU (Occupational Medicine Unit) relating to assessment, screening, and vaccination processes against specified infectious diseases.

3. Demonstrated good verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills, including an understanding of confidentiality requirements.
4. Demonstrates an ongoing commitment to professional and personal development, including compliance with all essential training requirements.
5. Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, Work, Health and Safety (WHS) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
