The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and driven Digital Journalist/Editor to join SBS News in our expanding digital newsroom. We’re looking for someone who shares our vision and cares about showcasing our distinctive content across all our digital platforms. We care about reaching all Australians – with a strong mandate for news stories that support, celebrate and appreciate the diversity of Australia’s multicultural society.
We are looking for a dedicated and skilled reporter and editor to join the team on a rotating roster to create and edit content for SBS News’ Digital platforms. This is a full-time ongoing role that will involve shift work.
You will be:
Curating the SBS News home page to maximise the SBS difference
Commissioning stories and guiding journalists to cover the most crucial stories of the day
Commissioning visually rich assets to complement stories, and bringing forward ideas for innovative coverage
Covering breaking news, sending app alerts and operating live blogs
Using data and analytics tools to help inform editorial choices
Rostered into reporter shifts as well, pitching and writing original content, including news coverage, features and explainers
It is a requirement of this role that incumbents are vaccinated with at least two doses of an approved Covid-19 vaccination. We do however have a medical exemption process and we would be happy to discuss your application should this be applicable to you.
About you
You must be a confident and creative writer with a strong eye for detail and the angles that matter to our audience.
You’ll need an understanding of media law, flawless subbing, strong headline writing skills.
You’ll be committed to maintaining our editorial integrity and maximising our publishing reach.
The successful applicant will have demonstrated experience as a digital editor and journalist for news titles.
You must also bring;
A keen interest in what’s happening in the world to develop storytelling in new and innovative ways to reach and engage wider audiences.
A passion for providing news for all Australians
A hunger to understand and share new developments and trends in journalism and digital media.
Good energy to collaborate across the newsroom to create unique and distinctive content that meets deadlines.
News happens around the clock and you must be willing and able to undertake hours that may involve early mornings, evenings and weekends.
