About this role
The Global Network Validation and Integration Tester is an essential role responsible for testing all software and service deliveries for the Global Voice platform to allow rapid deployment to the field underpinning new products and revenues greater than £0.5B. The Global TDM interconnects as well as global voice services are migrating towards SIP with ever more customer services becoming dependant on the test team’s deliveries. The role holder is responsible for ensuring functional test activities that also include billing and OSS integration and any new service introduction encompassing both test model and live environments. The role holder is responsible for carrying out in a quality manner all the platform and service test specifications, document the test results, highlight any risks or issues that might affect service launch and to provide the necessary sign off and support to operations teams for the Global Voice Platform.
You’ll have the following responsibilities
Test Delivery – Accountable for delivering all testing activities to plan, agreed with technical delivery manager, responsible for co ordinating with other technical specialists assigned to the project and ensuring test documentation and reporting is complete for sign off.
Test Execution – Accountable for executing the functional testing to agreed delivery timescales. The scope of testing encompasses both the model and live environments.
Test Documentation & Reporting –Responsible for test design,functional test specifications & production of relevant documentation for sign off. Daily reporting on projects and systems under test, including flagging up potential risks and issues in a timely manner to reduce any impact to delivery timescales to Technical delivery manager.
Supervision of Test Engineers – Responsible for the supervision of any engineers allocated to assist with testing their component/project/service.
Test Trasformation – Continual Improvement and adaption of working practices including but not limited to Global Platform’s test transformation goals.
Costs and Expenses – Ensure correct permissions and budgets are in place before incurring any expense / purchase order, all expenses are to be claimed promptly and all PR’s are receipted upon delivery.
Sharing knowledge –Training and upskilling of junior members of the team, succession planning for self , ensure successor is identified and training plans are documented.
You’ll have the following skills & experience
Test Management/Execution – Experienced tester with the ability to manage a test plan for a large platform including execution of tests as per plan, co ordination with test specialists to deliver committed services.
Problem/Issue management- Good working knowledge of platform problem reporting process and tools, able to raise isues to supplier in an efficient manner including appropriate diagnostic information.
Product Expert – Expert in the system under test, able to configure services and provide guidance to junior team members on platform design, function and operation.
Stakeholder and Vendor Management – Ability to engage with Design, Delivery and Operational stakeholders to ensure appropriate technical discussion and feedback is incorporated into test specification. Vendor Engagement regarding new features and issues found in test.
Problem solving – Proven ability to solve complex problems in a controlled and systematic manner, analysing the available data to make the correct business decesions taking responsible risks when appropriate.
Voice Services – It will be expected that the roleholder will have attained Voice Bronze ALP and undertake the Voice Silver ALP.
Test Background or complete Test Bronze ALP within 6 months of appointment.
Coaching /Mentoring – Coach and mentor team members to develop new skills and learn about the platform
Through knowledge of Voice over IP network technologies and SS7 networks.
Expertise on SIP protocol (RFC3261, RFC3264, RFC3550, etc.) and all SIP related RFCs.
Good understanding on concepts of SIP trunking, Session Border Controllers, Media Gateways, Network Security
Hands on experience of testing complex voice networks and voice application services.
Thorough understanding of SIP testing tools like wireshark and sipp essential.
ands on experience of working on Linux or Unix related operating systems is a MUST
Track record of managing test plans, bug reports and tracking with a keen mind to investigate issues is a MUST
Good Configuration management capability
Good understanding on IP networks in general
Basic understanding on configurations on switches/routers.
Base knowhow in Quality of Services – QoS, Bandwidth Control (e.g. RTCP, etc.)
Shell scripting experience beneficial
Prior experience on ACME Packet or Ribbon/Sonus SBCs would be beneficial
Previous automation experience would be useful
