We’re looking for a uniquely skilled and experienced technical leader and manager of managers to grow Atlassian’s UI Platform (UIP) organization, operating with the technical acumen and drive to radically evolve the frontend across existing, and future, Atlassian products.

UI Platform’s mission is to “Make it easy for teams to ship Atlassian UI”. To enable us to realise this mission, it will be critical for the individual in this role to drive outcomes and shape the vision across UI Platform’s three pillars of Design System, App Infrastructure and Frontend Platform. These three pillars provide critical services and components that power our product frontends, such as our Design System Javascript library (aka Atlaskit) of 60+ components embedded in all Atlassian products, Atlassian-frontend monorepo management, server-side rendering services, frontend gateways, mobile components and performance tooling.
Looking to the future, there are exciting opportunities for UI Platform to provide external developers innovative tools and capabilities to rapidly bring new collaborative products to market. To make this potential future a reality, we require a senior engineering leader who is an effective communicator that has experience influencing senior decision-makers across both engineering, product management and design faculties. They are skilled influencers with excellent communication skills and deep frontend technical knowledge. They can influence without authority, are self-motivated, love working through ambiguity, move rapidly from idea to execution and continuously iterate.
On Your First Day, We’ll Expect You to Have:
Extensive engineering management experience, following Agile development processes with a history of shipping platforms
Experience managing managers, and a track record of successfully scaling organizations up to 100-200 engineers
Experience building and nurturing cultures of operational excellence, shipping high quality platform capabilities to internal teams and enterprise customers
Ability to define and effectively communicate a long-term technical vision, and inspire the organization around a shared vision for success
Ability to communicate directly and clearly, with a strong emphasis on careful listening and empathy, and a bias toward action
Passion for cutting-edge frontend engineering patterns & practices at scale
Experience building tools and frameworks that has broadly accelerated developer productivity
