APEX (Automation and Platform Excellence) is a huge family of over 250 engineers and it provides platform support to the engineering teams across Grab and its respective JV’s. This role will require you to support the APEX team in its engagements with internal customers and stakeholders, as well as the tech families inside of APEX.
The Foundations Infrastructure team is one of many teams that makes up APEX. As part of our team, you’ll be able to work alongside engineers to help ensure developers have fast, safe, standardized access to cloud infrastructure. We are also the bridge between the security and risk teams, providing automated provisioning and management of cloud environments for service teams.
Along with other teams within APEX, we work to integrate toolings such as CI/CD pipelines, database management, and observability.
Get to know the role
We are looking for an engineer to automate cloud infrastructure management and developer tooling. We believe a successful candidate has experience with one or more cloud environments, knowledge of DevOps concepts and practices, some scripting/coding ability, and ideally some experience working as a part of a platform or CI/CD teams to deliver functionality and tooling for developers. We have a large developer community alongside an ever more sophisticated set of tools and automation requirements. In return, you will have the opportunity to expand your skills into several different disciplines – from systems administration to backend coding, integration with vendor systems, cloud automation, security, SRE, and more.
The Day-to-day activities
You are independently driving and delivering large cross-team projects, from the design and implementation to rollout. Projects should comply with best practices for rollout, risk management, and operational excellence standards.
You are responsible for the rollout of new cross-cutting technologies and maintain the high bar of standards for code reviews and rollout processes.
Effectively leads on-call responses for the team. Driving prompt incident recovery and rigorous post-mortems.
You support the developer community in their needs, always with a view to self-service and automation where possible.
You mentor peers and promote development and operational excellence best practices while achieving an excellent user experience.
You bring knowledge of new ways of doing things and can clearly articulate technical solutions both within and outside the team.
The Must-haves
You have extensive experience with cloud providers (AWS or Azure). And demonstrating how you use cloud products to solve business problems effectively.
Know how to build, maintain, and monitor highly-available distributed systems with strict SLAs
Have significant industry experience in operating highly available, public-facing high TPS Systems
You are an experienced DevOps practitioner and have operated production services in cloud environments
You have working experience with CI/CD practice and deploy tooling – Jenkins, GitLab CI, and similar
You have experience with automation for infrastructure deploy/manage – terraform, cloudformation, resource manager, or similar
The Nice-to-Haves:
Hands-on experience with large scale Docker / Kubernetes deployments
Experience with building monitoring and alerting systems
Experience with Linux system administration
Ability to work in a fast paced environment and under pressure
Interest in picking up new technologies and is keen to expand knowledge
