Our approach to big data, machine learning and AI is principled and unique. The world is in the early stages of a data/AI product revolution and our team is on the leading edge, defining the patterns for a new wave of systems to support the rapid creation, automation, and evolution of data/AI products and boosting the productivity of data engineers, data scientists and data analysts. We embrace open platforms that unify data warehousing, advanced analytics, data science and MLOps. We build upon the emerging Lakehouse (CIDR 2021 paper) architecture and are recognized leaders in the Spark ecosystem with many open-source contributions. This is familiar territory for us. In past platform revolutions, our CTO, Sim Simeonov, led teams that created and open-sourced foundational patterns for building large scale Web applications, Web-based APIs and single page apps. By joining us, you will have the opportunity to define the state of the art for how teams around the world create data/AI products.
As a Platform Data Engineer on our team, you will architect, design and develop shared infrastructure and frameworks using Apache Spark, Scala and cloud-based services. Your code will process multiple data sources, such as de-identified data about hundreds of millions of patients, to tackle some of the most challenging health innovation problems. You will have the opportunity, responsibility and autonomy to significantly impact the growth of the company.
You may be a fit if you:
Have a passion for data engineering, distributed systems and principled yet pragmatic tools & frameworks
Have deep experience with Apache Spark that goes beyond creating data pipelines OR are an experienced Scala software engineer excited to become an expert in the technology behind the largest and most active Scala open-source project
Are comfortable working on a high-performance team towards a multi-year vision with incremental deliverables
Are an entrepreneurial self-starter, curious about both technology and business, and driven by delivering end-user value and impact
Helpful: you have production experience with advanced dataflow orchestration (e.g., with tools such as Airflow, Prefect or Titanoboa)
Helpful: you have production experience with serverless and/or DevOps/MLOps
Bonus: you have some exciting open-source contributions to show off
