THE ROLE
We are seeking an exceptional postdoctoral research fellow to assist Professor Richard Han in the Department of Computer Science at Macquarie University in wonderful Sydney, Australia. Professor Han is an expert in mobile computing, drone systems, wireless sensor networks, computer security, ubiquitous computing, cybersafety, and cloud computing. Some of his most recent work includes award-winning research on drone detection (Matthan) as well as exciting work on drone load estimation (DroneScale).

The Department of Computing is located on a beautiful, serene and green campus in northern Sydney. About the Project
The main objective of this project is to develop innovative research in topics such as drone detection, localization, characterization, security, and relevant applications. The applicant must have demonstrated creative excellence, e.g. publications in top computer science systems conferences, and skill in building and evaluating software and hardware systems, especially mobile systems such as drones. Expertise in signal processing, security and/or machine learning is highly desirable. You will have completed a Ph.D., or thesis submitted, within a discipline that is relevant to the areas of computer science.
The applicant must be able to publish papers at top refereed venues, multiplex multiple projects, assist Prof. Han to build his lab, help manage multiple Ph.D. students as appropriate, and contribute to obtaining research grants as needed. The candidate must work well both collaboratively in teams and independently, be a fast learner and hit the ground running. The position will be for 24 months with the option for Prof. Han to extend it by one year, to a total of 3 years.
Selection Criteria
Interested parties must submit their CV, at least two letters of reference, and a research statement of purpose describing your prior expertise and ideas for how this experience will accelerate our drone research directions.
Essential
A Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related discipline (or thesis submitted)
Demonstrated research excellence in computing as evidenced by ongoing publications in top tier journals and conferences in computer systems, networks, mobile computing, ubiquitous computing, and/or wireless communication.
Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills in English
Proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders
Desirable
Expertise in signal processing, security and/or machine learning is highly desirable.
Experience in supervision of Ph.D. students
Experience in grant proposal development
Some industry experience
