Job Description : Principal Software Development Engineer:
The Ordering Services team at Expedia is looking for a passionate, results-oriented technology leader to help take Expedia’s booking platform to the next level. The Ordering team owns a unique set of services that operate at massive scale, responsible for nearly 100 billion in gross bookings yearly. Our company has pushed for an “API First” approach for surfacing our Business Capabilities to our EG developer community. We will be building out the full-stack platform that allows API providers and API consumers to be productive in end-to-end flows from onboarding to transacting and evolving their technical and business successes. Our platform also supports advanced capabilities like no-code workflows and them able UIs beyond APIs.
In this role, you will focus on enabling solutions for domain teams to seamlessly onboard to the platform, from conceptualization to design and implementation. As a principal software engineer, you will be driving the thought leadership in this space to build a first-class approach to enable success of the domain teams.
What you’ll do:
Proactively team up with peers across the organization to build an understanding of cross dependencies and shared problem-solving
Participate in a community of practice to share and gain knowledge
Demonstrate knowledge of advanced and relevant technology
Exhibit comfort working with several forms of technology
Develop and test sophisticated or non-routine software applications to ensure they meet design requirements
Use software design principles, data structures and/or design patterns, and computer science fundamentals to write clean, efficient, maintainable, optimized and modular code with good naming conventions
Lead/Clarify code evolution in code reviews
Bring together different participants with varied perspectives to develop solutions to issues and contribute your own suggestions
Think holistically to find opportunities around policies/ processes to increase efficiency across organizational boundaries
Identify areas of inefficiency and offer suggestions for improvements
Who you are:
A problem solver and architect with deep understanding of systems design and architecture of large scale, distributed and stateful systems.
Able to design software that is easily testable and observable
Ability to test, monitor, debug, fix issues within established SLAs, using testing and monitoring tools
Experience working in AWS and continuous delivery practices
Experience with REST APIs, Kubernetes and NoSQL technologies
Experience with full-stack technology stacks including HTML, JavaScript, Nodejs, Kotlin, Spring Boot
Experience in API Design and Domain Driven Development, knowledge of data exchange formats like Protobuf, GraphQL and Avro would be phenomenal
