About the team:
Our team’s mission is to empower residents in NSW by arming them with relevant & updated information while enabling them to transact and manage their interactions with the government ON THE GO. You’ll be part of truly agile, cross-functional product development team that consists of Engineers, Designers, Content Designers and Product Managers.
We use and value Extreme Programming (XP) practices (including test-driven development (TDD), pair programming and CI/CD) to design & build fast stable software and get it into our customers’ hands quickly. We are committed to iterative delivery using the build, measure, learn paradigm, and pride ourselves on being responsive to customers’ needs, consistently delivering value to the people of NSW.
At present we work with React Native, Tanzu Application Service, AWS, Apigee & Firebase to build and deliver end to end features on our iOS & Android mobile applications, but as we grow in complexity, our stack would too, and YOU would have a chance to shape it!

Being a Principal Software Engineer with Service NSW
As a Principal Software Engineer with Service NSW you will assist the Mobile Product Team with delivering innovative digital experiences for mobile. Day to day you will:
Collaborate with other Product Teams and Principals to represent the interest of the Mobile Product team in bigger forums.
Pair with other engineers to do regular hands-on coding and collaborate with Designers and Product managers.
Define the new mobile product that we’re building all the way from tools, technology, processes and customer value.
Establish and define the API and Microservices strategy for the Mobile app.
Improve the software delivery system, including decreasing build times, increasing automated tests.
Mentor, coach and guide fellow Product Engineers and Senior Product Engineers.
What you will bring to this role
Experience and expertise. 7+ years of solid software development experience. You will have excellent knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, Typescript and CSS
React Native Ninja. You are a skilled mobile app developer with 5+ years of building native mobile apps with 2-3 years of those building React Native mobile apps for both Android and iOS and deploying to Appstore and google Play (We’d love to see your work on the stores) Building Mobile apps is as familiar to you as swimming is to fishes.
Thorough working knowledge of React concepts like Virtual DOM, JSX, and component lifecycle management etc.
Proficiency with Android and iOS app development. Maybe you’ve mostly built native iOS or Android apps using Swift, Objective C, Java or Kotlin and you are just starting to become an amazing React Native developer. That’s okay with us, as you know what makes mobile apps special, and love building app-y apps with rich interactions.
Leadership. You take responsibility, while being hands-on with code, a visionary, mentor and coach. You are grounded yet inspiring.
Innovation. You are a thinker and love the thrill of building something from scratch. You would enjoy defining the product, its technology and the value to customers.
Outstanding communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills. You encourage diversity of thought and thrive in a team environment. You have good facilitation skills that guide discussions into outcomes.

Salary Grade 11/12, with the base salary for this role starting at $142,087 base plus superannuation
