Hexagon Mining, the leader in providing open pit and underground solutions for the Mining industry, has an immediate opening for a Technical Writer.
You will be responsible for working as part of a global team to develop documentation for technologically advanced software applications and hardware for the Mining industry. You will be responsible for developing, writing, updating, and delivering internal and external content for software and hardware user assistance, including documentation and other learning content under general supervision for the MineOperate family of products. Responsibilities:
Align with priorities set by the senior technical writer in Brisbane, Australia
Work with agile methodologies and industry best practices
Develop strong product knowledge and understanding of target audience users and personas
Develop content to create and update procedures, user and technical reference manuals, installations manuals, and virtual training for multiple audiences
Possess the knowledge of, and accurately apply, the U.S. English language including the meaning of words, rules of composition, and grammar
Align yourself with the best practices in user assistance approaches including documentation
Organize material and complete writing assignments in accordance with set standards regarding order, clarity, style, and terminology to deliver high quality documentation
Develop and maintain product documentation, including (but not limited to) Release Notes, Server-side API Technical Reference Manuals, User Reference Manuals, Hardware and Software Installation Manuals, Troubleshooting guides, Commissioning Manuals, Specification Sheets, Quick Guides, process documentation, and training documentation
Author new content and maintain documentation using Adobe FrameMaker and Microsoft Word
Capture and edit images using Snagit
Edit documents for language use and application of corporate branding guidelines as required
Apply style guides and authoring checklists to maintain documentation quality
Study and develop procedures from development materials, legacy content, product specifications, product benefit statements, production drawings, and operating procedures
Test documentation against software in development
Work with other writers, Product Managers, and hardware and software product development to identify gaps in documentation of functionality and complete the required documentation
Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders across international development centers to develop new feature documentation and update existing documentation where required
Perform draft and final layout for hard-copy printed manuals and online documentation
Produce final documentation using Adobe Acrobat
Maintain, enhance, and adhere to Hexagon Mining, Mine Operations documentation and reporting standards, systems, and processes
Understand implications of new content for current and future documentation requirements and the entire documentation set
Ensure content delivered is aligned with the relevant documentation standards, guidelines, and content architecture
Align with the objectives of Geosystems division of HCCI
Educational Qualifications:
A relevant tertiary qualification (any Graduate or Postgraduate in any specialization)
Skills Required:

What You’ll Need
Experience in using an authoring tool such as AuthorIT, FrameMaker, or RoboHelp
2+ years of experience in a similar role
Ability to write American English clearly and concisely using correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation
Proven ability to write conceptual, task-oriented, and reference documentation with equal facility
Experience with MS Office
Excellent written and spoken English
Experience writing to a style guide and to meet authoring requirements
Experience with JIRA and Confluence to track your work and collaborate with the product teams
Capable of effectively working with multiple stakeholders in cross-cultural, global teams
What Would Be Nice
Knowledge of using and applying Style Guides including the Chicago Manual of Style
Experience in creating and updating Templates in Microsoft Word and FrameMaker
Experience in creating or editing multimedia content such as images and videos
Experience in instructional design to develop scenario-based training content
Experience in the mining industry
